Memorial Day Weekend '09 Camping Day 3

Sunday, we went to Castle Rock and then back to the dam to fish. Everyone went home that night and we stayed up their by ourselves with our kids and my brothers. It was kind of creepy at night, because most of the other campers left as well, so there were only a handful of people there. We made all of the kids sleep in our tent that night and even brought the shotgun in there. We had a really bad experience camping one time quite a few years ago. Some crazy guy that was all messed up on drugs came to our campsite and started swinging around a metal pipe. We called the cops and my b/f actually had to blow a shot off into the air to get the guy to stop. If the cops would have arrived any later, he may have had to shoot the guy. The cops told us he would have been totally justified if he would have too. So, we do NOT ever go camping w/o his gun.

Here's a bunch of our camping group at the bottom of Castle Rock by the Wisconsin River. A few of the people stayed at the bottom to fish while we hiked up.

My friend J and her beautiful little girl C

My little Trixter pissed off that we wouldn't let him climb higher with some of the guys and he couldn't just wander around. One wrong move and you could fall, which he just would not understand.

My Dare Devil, the b/f and our friend M

One of our many gorgeous views up there.

So there's my Memorial Day Weekend camping trip. Everyone had alot of fun and we can't wait to go again. I hope to get up there before Labor Day, but who knows about that. There's so much that I would love to do this summer, and I'm sure we'd do it all if money were no object, but unfortunately... it is. In this tough economy, no one wants to spend money on a new roof or siding.
I do have my bil's camera sitting right next to me ready to dl his camping pics. I'll share some of those with you later on as his camera is really nice and takes awesome pictures.

Speed Racer - Review

In this new adventure from the hit Nicktoons series, Speed and his friends take on an extraordinary Eco-Car in a pulse-pounding 3 day race to win the deed to a trillion dollar company. The all-new DVD release comes with a collectible replica of the cool new Mach 6 toy car for kids to play along with at home. Speed racer The Next generation: Comet Run The Movie is available now on DVD and can be bought in several retail stores and at Amazon.com.

Since its debut on Nicktoons Network in 2008, Speed Racer The Next Generation has seen a number one premiere and consitently high weekly ratings. The first two DVDs from the new series, The Beginning and Fast Track, have already sold over 250,000 DVds to date while classic Speed Racer DVDs have sold over one million DVDs to date. You can find more information and cool Speed Racer merchandise at Liongate.

My family recently had the chance to review this movie, and I tell you it was great. I won't wreck it for you by telling details about the movie, but the kids were on the edge of their seats as the watched the races. My Little Dare Devil is a big fan of Spped and he thinks his car is just the coolest. He had fun playing with the toy replica of Speed's car Mach 6. All in all, the kids thought it was a great movie. Dad and I enjoyed it as well, yes us parents do get into the kiddy movies too!

KINeSYS Sunscreen

The mission of KINeSYS is "Protecting the Health of Active Families" At KINeSYS we believe that a healthy lifestyle includes an awareness of the environment and respect for environmental issues. We will continue to use the highest quality recyclable materials for our packaging and non-aerosol pumps for our sprayers. KINeSYS products are never animal tested.

KINeSYS was founded on the belief that passion can overcome all obstacles. This same belief today fuels our growth and validates our knowledge that we as a Company and as individuals can make a difference in our own world and the world around us. Passion for the Brand, the Company, our Partners and our Products will ensure our success.

My family had the opportunity to try some products from KINeSYS. I packed the KIDS SPF 30 Alcohol free Sunscreen Spray to take along on our camping trip over Memorial Day Weekend. With all the time we spent in the sun, it sure did come in handy. The full size bottle is the perfect size to just throw in my purse, so I didn't have to worry about forgetting it when we went fishing or on our hike up Castle Rock. It has a small hint of fragrance, but not so strong that it's overwhelming. It dried in just minutes leaving our skin silky smooth. The best quality for me is that it comes in a spray bottle so there's no need to get it all over my hands.

KINeSYS also sent me a bottle of the Travel Size Girl SPF 30 Alcohol free Spray Sunscreen. Well, if you read any of my camping stories, you'll know it was a weekend full of accidents. Since I have boys, I gave the bottle to my friend J's daughter to try out. She had it for about 5 minutes and must have been playing around with it because next thing I knew, J was asking her why she was all wet. Poor little C had spilled the whole bottle all over her! So I'm sorry to say I cannot attest to how this one worked, but the Green Tea and Vanilla fragrances sure made it smell good!

All in all, my experience with KINeSYS was great. I loved the product I tried and would definitely buy it again. It has so many great qualities that are hard to find in other sunscreens.

Thank you to KINeSYS and Extraordinary Mothers for helping to make this review possible.

The Mommy Confessions

I just found a fun new meme called The Mommy Confessions from Life Starring Ellie and Eve. As moms many of us have things that we would like to get off our chests or that we would just like to confess so this is the place to do it! Stop by if you'd like to join in.

So here is my confession. Sometimes my kids just drive me crazy! They always want to be outside later than they should be and I want them to be in the house because it's getting late, or whatever the reason may be. They think they're older than they are because they play with my teenage brothers alot. I don't want them to grow up faster than they need to and in their eyes that makes me a 'mean mom'. Hearing that really gets to me, because they could be so much worse off and I wish they'd just understand that.

Memorial Day Weekend '09 Camping Day 2

I promised I'd share more camping pictures and stories with you, so here goes.

Day 2:

We woke and my awesome friend J made us breakfast. Her boyfriend (J) helped out too. We sat around, hung out and chilled til about noon or so. The kids played on the playground and with the bad mitten set and all that fun stuff. My lil man always has to be a show off and prove how strong he is. This is the same kid who thinks he can beat me up because I'm a girl, LMAO. What a goof ball!

After all the fun at camp we went to the nearest little town and everyone did some fishing. I didn't get many pictures with my camera because I ended up grabbing my bil's which is so much better, so my camera sat around collecting dust. I got some awesome shots with it though and will post them once I get them.

Here's my boys and my brothers sitting on the rocks and my lil Cam caught a fish! I just love that little cheesy :)

Lauren Nicole Gifts - Review and Giveaway

Lauren Nicole Monogrammed Gifts offers many personalized products from hand stamped jewelry, headbands, bags & handbags, slippers & wraps and many others in between. This is a great place to stop if you want a special personalized gift for someone, or even something great for yourself. Here is a fun story about Lauren Nicole, LLC:

All through grade school my teachers would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I always said that I wanted to be a "sew-er", but I was told that I would never make any money that way. I got kicked out of choir in the third grade and sent to craft classes. I couldn't sing to save my life and knew that my dream of becoming a rock star just wasn't going to happen. My Mom bought me first sewing machine (a blue Holly Hobbie sewing machine)and that is where it all started.

After high school I ended up going to cooking school and working as a chef for many years and then an accountant for many more years after that (I got tired of cooking the beans, decided to count the beans instead, and then finally ended up doing what I wanted to do in the first place). I made craft items and sold them at lots of craft fairs for years. In 2004 I decided to turn my hobby into a company and started Lauren Nicole, LLC (named after my niece) and I love what I do. I have always believed you will be the happiest if you follow your dreams no matter how long it takes.

I hand make and/or monogram 100% of the products on the retail site and my husband, Brian, helps me with shipping during busy times. About 90% of the website is made up of my original designs. I also buy some blank items from a few small companies and then monogram them.

I received this lovely Fine Silver Small Flower Initial Necklace last week. I had it engraved with an S on it for a friend's daughter who's birthday is coming up. I know she is going to adore it just like I do. The pendant is beautiful and the quality is impecable. I'm sure it will last for years and years, even around a little girl's neck. The necklace arrived nestled in a cute little tin inside an organza bag. The packaging itself was a nice little gift.

The quality of the products and well as the customer service has reeled me in and I can't wait to find other great products I love from them.
I mentioned here about quite a few things I have won recently, and this Hand Stamped Silver Mommy Necklace was one of them! I found out last Friday, so I'm still waiting to get it because it was personalized with my kiddos names and birthdates. I can't wait to get it thouhg, it looks absolutely beautiful and I don't have any jewelry with my kids' names on it, this will be the first!

How would you like to win a Fine Silver Small Flower Initial Necklace? Well, I have one to give away!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25th Anniversary Season 7

COWABUNGA! It's been 25 years since Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello emerged from the sewers of Manhattan and were transformed into heroes-in-a-half-shell battling petty criminals, evil megalomaniacs and alien invaders. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Lionsgate Home Entertainment is presenting all 27 episodes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Season 7, available for the first time ever one DVD. Fans can collect the commemorative set that will be sold as four separate DVDs, each featuring different episodes from season 7 and a Mini-Classic Turtles Action Figure! All four DVD's feature a different turtle on the cover, and fit together to create one power packed scene with all the wise-cracking, pizza-obsessed superheroes aligned and ready for battling evil. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Season 7 DVDs are available now at Amazon.com.

Now I felt really old when I found out TMNT were celebrating their 25th anniversary! I remember watching these cartoons when I was a kid. I have to admit, it was one of my favorites. I even watched it as a teenager with my little cousin. It's funny that my kids watch this now!

We opened up the DVDs as soon as they arrived and popped in Season 7 - Part 1: The Leonardo Slice. Wow, did this bring back memories! Leo was always my favorite turtle by far. I just love his attitude.

These DVDs are great because you get to watch one episode right after another. One DVD lasted for over 2 hours, and the 4 combined run for approximately 594 minutes! TMNT Marathon anyone? I'm sure we'll be having lots of those in my house :)

If you've never seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before, I suggest you check it out because you just don't even know what you're missing! If you watched them as a kid like me, or your kids watched them, then you know what I mean. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an all time classic and they just don't make them like this anymore.

Premio MEME Award

I was given this award by Shana over at Blaze 'N' Crochet. She is such a sweetheart. This is what she had to say about my blog.

Outnumbered 3 to 1 has such a fun wit and I love the way she writes and the reviews of certain products really helps me make decisions about things I might like or not.

That just made my day. I mean, you never know if people really 'like' to read you or if it's just something to make the time pass lol. I want to extend a HUGE thank you to Shana for thinking of me :)

I can accept this award with the following conditions. I must list 7 personality traits about myself and I must pass this award onto 7 other blogs that deserve such fine recognition for the personalities that they share with the blogging world.

Hahahaha, this should be fun. Now you will all learn the truth!

1. I am very caring, honest and sensitive. I would do anything within my reach for someone that I care about.

2. I am very creative and crafty, have been all my life. It's a great past time and stress reliever.

3. I am a bitch, yes I said Bitch. I tell it like it is and do not put up with shit from anyone. Some of you may think that's a bad thing, but it's really not. It makes me who I am and I'm not always like that, just if you piss me off.

4. Look at # 3. I get over my pissy moods pretty quick, and just go with the flow and have a good time.

5. I am a sentimental sap. Everything holds some kind of meaning to me. When my grandma died, I didn't get much of anything but a birdhouse (which is proudly displayed in my kitchen with the rest of them), a little decorative garden bench that was falling apart so I redid it and painted it, and some cheap plastic outdoor chairs (you know, the ones you buy for $5). Well these things are all I have left of her and they mean the world to me. I even have a little photo collage of her sitting on the top shelf of my desk and I look at them everyday!

6. I am a very complex person, I'm not sure if anyone really truely understands me, including myself.

7. I am extremely emotional. I cry about everything, especially movies and even TV shows lol.

Now that I have told it all, I will pass this award on to 7 of you to tell all. Believe me, I would love to give this to more than the 7 people below, but I'm in a 'follow the rules' kind of mood today. Please don't take offense. I love you all :)

1. Casey at A Couch with a View - I love reading her blog, and I think she has almost the same attitude as me.

2. Mel at The Bubble - I have said before that if I met this chick irl, we would have a blast. She was a single mom for the longest time, and that in itself shows alot of character.

3. Kayla at The Eclectic Element - This young girl suffers from Lyme Disease, but still makes an effort to help her mom take care of her by making jewelry. She makes some gorgeous pieces. She also has a very big heart inspite of all that she has been through.

4. Valerie at Sweeps4Bloggers - She has such an upbeat, sweet attitude and just seems like a generally nice person.

5. Angie at 5 Vinez Monkeys - This woman is amazing, not only because she hooked me up with an awesome blog design. Aside from her work on blog designs and tutu making, she takes care of her 5 children which she happens to homeschool. I wish I had a fraction of her drive!

6. Shari at A Psych Mommy - This chick just seems so cool, and a great personality. She's a school psychologist and a mother to an adorable little boy.

7. Erin at Mrs. Cox's Slice of Heaven - This new mama is absolutely hilarious. She's got a great sense of humor and an a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e little girl. I swear I lmao while reading half of her posts.

Not what she expected, but close enough! The next day she receives a phone call from the Las Vegas one-night stand, Luke, claiming she's already married to him¬-and he faxes her the license for proof! Both are ready for an annulment, until Peggy arrives in quaint New Nineveh, CT, where Luke cares for his Great Aunt, and the old woman makes Peggy an offer she can't refuse.

This book sounded interesting when I first heard about, but I wasn't sure if I would get into it. I usually read murder mystery, suspense and crime drama books and this seemed more of a romantic love story book. I figured I'd take it up north with me on my camping trip over Memorial Day weekend. Everyone does alot of fishing, and I just don't get into it. Reading a book sounded like alot more fun than just sitting around watching everyone fish while I twiddled my thumbs.

I started it Saturday afternoon and read for about an hour. Everyone fished for a couple of hours on Sunday while I read the whole time. I even had my friend N beside me reading one of her books. I took the Trixter and my brother back to camp because they were bored and the mosquitoes were horrible. So, I sat in my tent and read some more. I read almost the whole way home on Monday and still couldn't put it down. It was finished by Monday night.

With all of that being said, I really did enjoy the book. I mean, I just couldn't put it down. I just had to know what was going to happen next. It never lost my interest.

Memorial Day Weekend Camping Trip '09

I know it's a few days late, but after 4 days away from the Internet (and the fact that my computer is still broken) I have had ALOT of catching up to do. It didn't help that I had ALL of the Blog Launch Party giveaways end the day after I got back, what was I thinking lol. I am happy to announce that I should be able to spend more time online next week. The b/f ordered a new computer, so I'll be getting his (which is only 2 years old). I can't wait. Once you're used to NOT sharing a computer (besides with the kiddos) it's really hard to have to share one. I do give him alot of credit though because he has given me the whole day to blog and whatever else I need to do, and he uses it at night. So, I guess he does support my blogging, what a great guy! Anyway, on to the camping bit....

We left Friday at around 2:30 with our friends J & J, and their daughter following us. The ride was actually pretty decent, we only hit a few traffic spots. It was just kind of scary because we had a canoe strapped to the top of the truck. It never fell off though, so I guess the b/f did a good job strapping it. We ended up taking my 14 and 15 y/o brothers with us too, so we had 4 boys! Here's some pics of our camp site the first day/evening after we were all set up.

We got up there around 6pm or so, and the Dare Devil walked by the river right away. Within 5 minutes of being there, he fell and one of his legs and foot was soaked with mud and water. We weren't even unpacked yet, so I had to dig out his clothes and change him outside. Needless to say we yelled at him for messing around and not being careful.

Now here's an embarrassing story, but I'll share it anyway. We never did dig the hole for the little portable port o potty tent and I refuse to use the ones up there. They just freak me out so bad. I have visions of a raccoon, muskrat, spider or something nasty crawling out of the hole and biting me in the ass. So I was walking down the little hill to the river to go pee down there. There was an opening right at the bottom of the hill, but I just had to go further because I thought I was too close to camp. I took one step and boom I.. fell.. on.. my.. ass.. It was a big mud slick. The river must have flooded over the spring and it didn't dry up completely. My pants were covered in mud and so were my crocs. I was so pissed off because they were the closest thing to shoes I had with me. I forgot my tennies, so I had crocs and flip flops. So I had to change my pants and put my flip flops on. My feet and ankles got tore up by mosquitos because I couldn't wear socks with my flip flops. It's a good thing I have a great sense of humor though (and some great friends) because it was forgotten right away and I enjoyed the rest of the night. We didn't do much that night but sit around the fire, drink and chat. The b/f's brother and cousin came up around 10pm and set their tent up in the dark using flashlights and spot lights. We've done that quite a few times in the past and it is quite a pain in the ass.

I'll post more on the 2nd day later on today. I didn't get too many pictures with my camera because it really does suck. So I'll have to get the pics from my friend and my BIL sometime later to post the really good ones for you. I kept taking off with the BIL's camera just so I could get great pictures. So anyway, check back later today for more stories and pictures.

Remember how I said I never win anything?

Well, my luck has turned around. I won 3 different things (from 3 different places) during the Mom's Nite Out event! I couldn't believe it. But there's more. I've won 3 other things since then! I guess it pays to enter all these giveaways doesn't it!

I want to thank each and every one of the sponsors and well as the hosts.

Mom's Nite Out Winnings:

Then I won What's a Dame to Do from Games for Dames at the Twitter Party. This is a really fun game that is absolutely perfect for a 'Girl's Night'. Being a mom, I don't get too many of those, so I had to check it out on my own. It looks liek alot of fun though, and I will be taking it along to my next Girl's Night for sure.

I won these cute little note cards from Just Being Notesy during the Mom's Nite Out Twitter party. I thought it was really great that she found a way to include the great cards in the event! All of the cards are personalized at the bottom saying 'A Note from Melissa'. Who doesn't like personalized items, right?!

Here are my Blog Giveaway winnings.

I won a pair of earrings similar to these from Scarborough Seashells. I checked out their site, and they have some amazing pieces of jewelry made out of sea glass.

I won 500 Business Cards from UPrinting at the Stepmom Extraordinaire giveaway.

New Blog Look and Giveaway!

I'm sure many of you have noticed that my blog has a complete new look to it. It was done by the very talented Angie of Angela Vinez Designs. This woman is amazing. She answered all of my emails promptly and was very easy to work with. I told her what I wanted and she worked it until it was exactly what I wanted. I have to admit, I was a little picky and had her change some stuff in the header. I felt so bad. I'm surprised she didn't scream at me lol.

Angie does a variety of different things from Blog Designs, Button and banner packages, Photography and gorgeous little tutus for your princess. Can you believe that she manages to do all of this while homeschooling her 5 children?!! I don't know how she juggles it all. I can't even blog and make jewelry anymore. My shop has been slowly diminishing.

I am so excited and happy about this new design. It's so much cleaner and looks more fresh. I absolutely love having a navigation bar now too! I couldn't be more pleased with my experience with Angela Vinez Designs. I definitely recommend her if you're looking to update your blog, or even if you just need something like a new button.

How would you like to win a design from Angela Vinez Designs? She has offered to give away a Pre-Desinged Template. The winner will get to pick the design of their choice, whether they want a 2 column, 3 column, or the new professional layout. The header text will be customized with anything they want it to say - no additional charges for taglines, verses, etc.

Fitbook Review

I recently had the opportunity to try Fitbook, a fitness journal. Here is some information from the website:

let's face it - writing down goals works. research shows that people who write down their goals are 75% more likely to achieve them. true - living a healthy, fit lifestyle takes discipline and hard work, but setting up yourself for success starts with jotting down your goals and making a realistic plan for achieving them.

introducing fitbook™ - the personalized, flexible and functional fitness journal that offers a unique system to plan for success, track your progress, and reach your goals.

1. have a game plan
whether your goals are to tone up or slim down, it's important to write down your goals. set your 12-week goals - then set smaller goals on a weekly basis so you have a plan for achieving your long-term goals.

2. track your progress
record your workouts and log your food intake - research shows that the act of just putting this info down on paper is key to reaching your goals. plus - you can go back and see your progress throughout the entire 12 weeks.

3. reach your goals
reflect on your 12-week goals, log your accomplishments, and reward yourself! then get ready to plan your next 12 weeks.

I have said a number of times that I need to lose weight. It's so much easier said than done. It's just so hard to stick with a plan.

Fitbook has made that task a little bit easier for me. I can track all of my progress, so I know where I'm at all the time. In the beginning, you write down all of your measurements, so in the end you will see the before and after right next to each other. I think that's great because it helps to show you real results. Then each week, I write a plan down, my current stats, goals and notes. I even write in what I eat.

I think this book is wonderful because I'm one of those people that really do need to see everything laid out right there for me to see. It wil play a large part in my weight loss journey.

Fitbook is available for $19.95 and is proudly made in the USA on 100% recycled paper.

I'm Back............

.........and so so so tired. I just got out of the shower, and I swear it was the best shower I have ever had lol. Now I'm going to curl up on the couch and try to finish the book I started reading while everyone was out fishing over the weekend. I promise to be back tomorrow with all of the fun details and some awesome pictures!

Happy Memorial Day!
