The Sunshine Award

My dear friend Kayla over at The Eclectic Element has awarded me with the Sunshine Award. Kayla sure does bring sunshine to the world too. She has been through a lot in her short life, but she is always upbeat and positive. That's one of the things I adore about her :)
So thank you Kayla and you should all check out her blog and show her a lil love.

In tradition of this award, here are the rules I must oblige by in order to pass it on:

- Put the logo on your blog or within your post.
- Pass the award onto 12 bloggers.
- Link the nominees within your post.
- Let the nominees know they have received this award by commenting on their blog.
- Share the love and link to the person from whom you received this award.

It was pretty hard to narrow it down to just 12 since I have met some absolutely wonderful bloggy friends in the past year. These women brighten up my day quite often, some of them every day and I am so glad to have 'met' them! But without further ado, here they are:

I'll be around to let you all know about your award in just a few :)

Review - The Boys Are Back

Clive Owen Stars in a Deeply Moving Tale of a Man Who Finds Himself
Suddenly Responsible For Raising Two Sons Alone

From Miramax Films

THE BOYS ARE BACK

Available on DVD January 26, 2010

“One of the year’s best pictures” — Baz Bamigboye, Daily Mail

The Boys are Back, the deeply moving and often funny tale of a man who finds himself suddenly responsible for raising two sons alone, comes to DVD on January 26, 2010 from Miramax Films and Buena Vista Home Entertainment. The story of this irreverent and independent sportswriter who suddenly faces single fatherhood is inspired by the true story of Australian Simon Carr, The Boys are Back is an original and uplifting story of one family’s journey. Exclusive bonus features include a behind-the-scenes photographic tour and a visit with the three special guys who lived the story.

Clive Owen (Closer, Duplicity) heads up an accomplished cast that includes Laura Fraser (A Knight’s Tale), Emma Booth (TV’s “The Circuit”) and George MacKay (Defiance). Directed by Scott Hicks (Shine), The Boys Are Back is a 2009 Heartland Truly Moving Picture Award winner that won the hearts of critics everywhere including Peter Travers of Rolling Stone who calls it “A funny, touching and vital film…Clive Owen gives a heartfelt, award-caliber performance.”

DVD Bonus Features
The Boys Are Back: A Photographic Journey — A picture is worth a 1,000 words as director Scott Hicks takes us on a pictorial tour of the making of the film.
A Father and Two Sons, On Set — Simon Carr, whose memoir inspired the movie, and his real-life sons visit the set.
The death of his wife leaves wisecracking sportswriter Joe Warr (Clive Owen) with a curious six year-old (Nicholas McAnulty) and a rebellious teen from a previous marriage (George MacKay) to bring up in a household devoid of feminine influence. So Joe takes on parenting the only way he knows how—full throttle. With an exuberance born of necessity, he teaches his boys to meet the joy and fragility of life head on. The Boys Are Back chronicles the fierce love and loyalty the three Warr men discover for each other as they make their way through the trials of everyday life.

The Boys Are Back was released on DVD January 26th by Mirimax Films with a SRP of $29.99. Here's a trailer for you to check out.

This movie was an outstanding tale of a father trying to keep it together for his son after the loss of his mother. Not quite knowing how to run a household and be a single dad, he tried the best he could. In comes his estranged son from another relationship and that just brought on more drama to the mix.

The two brothers soon bonded and it was wonderful to see their relationship grow. The relationship between father and sons was growing too, just at a bit slower pace.

The Boys Are Back was a great movie that brought many a tear to my eye. I just couldn't help but feel for that poor family as they tried to deal with life without their mom and wife. It's hard to imagine that kind of loss. Honestly, I probably couldn't bear it.

Here's one of my favorite scenes from the movie, the pilow fight.

We just have cell phones. I haven't had a land line in years. Is that strange?

Funny Faces from Gunner #1

Welcome to "Funny Faces from Gunner" at Outnumbered 3 to 1. My dear dog Gunner gave me the great idea for these posts, because he makes some really funny faces. He is the laugh of the house pretty often. He has an under bite {yes, under instead of over} so sometimes his lips get stuck at awkward positions. While he doesn't quite know what's going on, it sure does make for a good laugh.

So I will try to capture these funny faces from time to time to share with you. Then you, my lovely readers, can laugh at him too!

This is one of the funny ways his lip gets stuck sometimes. I'll say "Gunner, fix your lip" and he knows what I'm talking about. He'll lick his chops real quick and make it disappear!

Review & Giveaway - Fandangling {CLOSED}

I invented Fandangling quite by accident. It all started with our daughter Lia. When she was born we were seeking ways to keep her happy and interested in her room. When I put the first Fandangling on the fan in her room, her eyes lit up and the rest, as they say, is history.

I quickly realized that Fandangling was great for babies – my Mom friends all love it. As Lia grew older and more people came in contact with Fandangling, it became clear that Fandangling wasn't just for babies.

Fandangling is surely the next generation mobile, but older kids love it as well. Our friend's 7 year old daughter loves puppies. The Puparazzi kit was a favorite gift and the perfect accent to her room. Whether her fan is on or off, Fandangling livens up her room and is an eye catching part of the decor. Little boys love it too. Whether they like bugs or sports, adding a Fandangling to their room is fun and cool.

Fandangling has become a wonderful toy – it is for kids of all ages and even adults. Whether you are looking to soothe or just make an unmistakable statement in a room, Fandangling is the answer.

— Anne

Fandangling is not your typical ordinary baby mobile. Instead of mounting to or above baby's crib, the characters are put onto a fan. It's a very easy do it yourself type project. Each stuffed character has velcro attached to a ribbon it hangs from. There are more adhesive velcro squares in the packet, which you attach to the fan, then attach the other velcro piece to and voila you have the colored image above.

Now most of you know that I don't have a baby. But, we do have friends and family with babies. The man's nephew is about to become a dad in March too. Can you believe he's going to be a great uncle? I sure can't!

So of course I had to get this cool little Safari Fandangling for their little baby since his room will be decorated in a safari theme. I think it is the most adorable thing! It was also very easy to install like I mentioned before. Total no brainer, even for those not so handy hubbys out there. If for some reason, it is too complicated for some, it comes with step by step instructions.

Fandangling is also coming out with a kids line for the older kids. I can't wait to see what they come up with because I would totally get one for the boys' room.

Another great thing about Fandangling is that they donate 10% of proceeds to charity!

Buy It!

Each Fandangling is available for $19.95 plus S&H.

Review & Giveaway - Death of a Valentine by M.C. Beaton {CLOSED}

Death of a Valentine

By M.C. Beaton

Amazing news has spread across the Scottish countryside. The most famous of highland bachelors, police sergeant Hamish Macbeth, may actually marry at last. The entire village of Lochdubh adores Macbeth's bride-to-be. Josie McSween is Hamish's new constable, and she is a pretty little thing, with glossy brown hair and big brown eyes. The local folk think that Josie is quite a catch, but Hamish couldn't be more miserable.

The wedding wouldn't be happening if it weren't for the murder of a beautiful woman in a nearby village. After the gorgeous woman receives a deadly Valentine's Day gift, Hamish and Josie take on the case. However, they soon discover that the list of the victim's admirers is endless. The case confirms Hamish's belief that love is extremely dangerous, but he still can't avoid the events that lead up to his celebrated engagement.
Death of a Valentine was definitely an interesting read. First of all, it takes place in Scotland, so some of the conversations are quite interesting if you ask me. I've always liked how the Scottish talk. M.C. Beaton made the story much more interesting by using this lingo in her writing. In ways, it felt like I was right there in the Scottish countryside with the characters.

It was quite mystifying trying to figure out who done it in this story. There were so many suspects and the victim's past started to unfold painting her as a not so great person, quite unlike so many thought. Guess that goes to show, everyone isn't really who they appear to be, are they?

When police woman Josie came into town, I just knew there would be trouble with her. This woman was so demented and troubled, she really was insane I believe. She was definitely one of those charcters that you couldn't even bring yourself to root for. Her total logic was just way off, complete wack job material.

Win It!

3 winner will win a copy of Death of a Valentine!

STREET DATE: January 12, 2010

I was a huge fan of the movie 10 Things I Hate About You. Who wouldn't be? Heath Ledger was smokin' hot in that movie way back when. Julia Stiles isn't exactly your average girl in that movie either. The funny part is, I still have that movie! It's one of the 'chick flicks' I watch here and there. Funny huh?

Anyway, we're not talking about the movie here, we're talking about 10 Things I Hate About You: Volume One from the television series. Since I loved the movie so much, I hoped that this series wouldn't disappoint. I'm happy to say that it didn't. I watched the entire set in 2 nights, which was a pretty hard task. I had to fight with the kids over the TV. Thankfully mom won that fight since I wasn't feeling all that great anyway. In my defense, they have cable TV in their room, plus my computer was free; so whatever.

The director did an awesome job with the cast for sure. They remind me a lot of the cast from the movie. The character that plays ditsy Bianca is great! She plays the part well. She's so clueless that she thinks her best friend is gay and had no clue what the pervs were thinking about her little internet show. I wonder, are people really that clueless? I sure hope not!

Kat is by far my favorite character. She's got this tough side that refuses to let anyone inside. But inside, she really is jusy a normal teen, but afraid to let it show. She cleans up well too.

10 Things I Hate About You: Volume One is a must see and I cannot wait to see the rest of the shows!

Review & Giveaway - Nerf Armor for DSi {CLOSED}

We recently got the Nintendo DSi around Christmas time. The kids absolutely love it and play it constantly. They're boys and boys are rough, so I always worried about them dropping it or scratching up the screen. Fortunately, Nerf Armor for the DSi is available!

I really like the Nerf Armor for the DSi better than some other types of armor I've seen for the simple fact that it's soft and spongy. It was very easy to slip the DSi into and there's a little flap you can pull up so that you can still use the camera with the armor on! It does make it a bit bulkier, but no one minds. Better safe than sorry, right.

We also got an Invisi Shield to protect the screen, which is great. Lil Man is a bit rough with the stylus, so the Invisi Shield is a great way to protect the screen. In fact, I think we will always keep some on hand "just in case" oen gets ruined for some reason.

My kids are HUGE Transformers fans, so they were excited when they saw the yellow Transformers Stylus. It's a bit larger than the stylus that comes with it so it's much easier for their little hands to grip. The think it's just the coolest thing ever!

They also got a game that I will actually play too! How exciting, right? Hey, sometimes moms have to play too. We do get bored sometimes between all the chores you know. We got Squeeballs Party for the DS. It's a super fun game. Actually it's more than one game. There are over 70 different games you can play. Some are up to 4 players too! I really like the bowling one and the catapult type game. Oh, did I mention how cute the squeeballs are? They are stinkin' adorable alright!

Buy It!

You can buy all of the above mentioned items from the PDP website starting at $4.99.

MAKE IT OR BREAK IT: VOLUME ONE (EXTENDED EDITION)

How far will they go to achieve their ultimate dream? Experience the rivalry and romance of four teenage girls on their path to Olympic gold in the original ABC Family series that has fans and critics cheering all across the nation. “You’ll flip for…Make It Or Break It,” raves David Hinkley of the New York Daily News.

Who will rank #1 at Nationals and what will it take to get there? Viewers will flip for this engaging series chronicling the triumphs and heartbreaks as close friends balance their lives as high school students with the intense world of competitive gymnastics. Fans can relive the series that raises the bar on family drama, complete with a never-before-seen extended episode, and go behind the scenes to discover what it takes to perform such amazing stunts—only on DVD!
I'd never seen Make It or Break It, but immediately became hooked when I started watching it. Watching these girls practice and try to be the best they can to make the Nationals was very inspiring. These girls have a dream and will go to many lengths to achieve that dream. Mix in some family drama and a spoiled girl who always gets what she wants, and you have a pretty entertaining show!

I really like Make It or Break It. My brother was entertained too since he watched a lot of it with me. I wonder if some of that had to do with the girls running around in a leotard though? My guess would be yes!

Review & Giveaway - Penguin Luck {CLOSED}

In the novel Penguin Luck, Doreen Lowe is a young, sophisticated junior associate in a small Manhattan law firm that primarily serves the lower echelons of society. Regularly visited by three ghosts, Doreen is forced to listen to their pleas that she "carry on for them"- after the Holocaust- all while balancing the demands of her career and personal life.

After Doreen marries a banker with an entrepreneurial spirit, he achieves his dream of establishing a telecommunications company. Within a few years, Doreen is serving as the company's legal counsel while simultaneously raising a son, but is still being tormented by her spirits. As the young couple rides out the tech boom of the late 1990s, Doreen must reconcile her unorthodox personal choices with her widowed father, her friends, and her large conscience.

Penguin Luck is a compelling tale about one woman's emotional journey as she learns to cope with a burdensome family history, a trio of determined ghosts, and the power of luck.
Penguin Luck isn't the typical book I would normally read. Usually if it doesn't have murder and mystery in it somewhere, I am not interested within a few pages.

Fortunately, that was not the case with Penguin Luck. Kay Mupetson did such an amazing job in telling the story, that I was hooked within the first few pages. I got entangled in Doreen's life as Kay told all about the happenings, the friendships and the family history of her family. I was actually surprised to learn few things in Penguin Luck that I have never known either. I guess I should have payed more attention to history.

I enjoyed Penguin Luck and would recommend it to anyone, even if that's not your usual type of read.

I'm a Frigidaire Test Drive Mom!

I am so very excited to share this amazing, wonderful and super awesome news with you! I was chosen to be one of the Frigidaire Test Drive Moms! Yes, can you believe it? I almost couldn't, that's for sure! I don't think I have ever been so excited about anything! You should have seen me when I found out. The Man was just ecstatic too, but he was laughing at how excited I was. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face that day if I tried! Do you know how hard it has been to not tell everyone this awesome news? Pretty. Darn. Hard.

I am on the Frigidaire Test Drive Range/Microwave Team, so I'll be sharing stories about a brand new Frigidaire Stove I'll be getting sometime in the next month and a half! I cannot wait!

There's the inside of the stove above. Isn't it huge?? I cannot wait to start cooking in this thing.

I'll also be getting a microwave that mounts above the stove. I am pretty excited for that too, since our microwave just retired last week. I couldn't believe it. The thing is only like 3 years old. You'd think it would last longer than that.

So over the next few months, I will be chronicling our lives with our new stove. I will be sharing my thoughts on it along with pictures and video. I am going to see if I can get some pics in of The Man cooking. Yes, believe it or not, he does cook. Would you believe that he actually taught me how to cook? Well it's true. I mean I could cook basic stuff and breakfast. Of course I was an excellent baker too. I had just never cooked a dinner complete with meat and all of that. Good thing I found him huh? Otherwise, I might not even have a use for this stove!

He's just as excited about this new stove as I am too! He cannot wait to try it out, and couldn't believe how big the inside looks! Thanksgiving will never be a problem again, that's for sure!

I also want to share a new campaign for a great cause with you. Frigidaire and Jennifer Garner have teamed up for Spin & Win to help support Save The Children. You can log into www.maketimeforchange.com and play Spin & Win for a chance to win prizes including a new time-saving Frigidaire Affinity washer/dryer. Every day you take a spin, Frigidaire donates $1 to Save the Children as part of their $250,000 commitment to this worthy cause.

I wrote this review while participating in a Test Drive Campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Frigidaire and will receive a Frigidaire Range/Microwave to facilitate my review.
