Bridal Shower Fun

Our very good friends are getting married on March 20th. In fact, all 3 of my guys will be standing up looking all super cute in their tuxedos. Yesterday was a surprise wedding shower for the bride to be at El Fuego, her favorite restaurant. One of the girls thought it was the bachlorette party and brought the naughty gifts. It was a lot of fun. Good drinks, good company, good food; what else could you ask for? We did over stay our welcome a bit I think and the staff seemed to be rushing us out of there a bit. They were getting a little packed though {45 minute wait for seating} and it was Saturday night, so I suppose it is understandable.

I got dropped off at the restaurant, so I just went back to her house with her when it was all over and we waited for the boys to come back, since the groom to be was having a boys day with my 3 guys. As soon as they walked in, Big Bro said "Wait til you see what we did with the house". I was super scared right away. I imagined all of the possible things that could have happened in the 5 hours that I was gone and I was scared to even see what had been done. He joked that we switched rooms, so that's the first place I looked when I walked in the house. Nothing was different. I said to The Man "Why you gotta mess with me and say you did something to the house?" He said, "Did you look at my desk?" I knew right away what he did, before I even went in there. As if his 25 inch monitor isn't big enough, he felt the need to set the TV on his desk and hook it up to his computer. Crazy men. That's all I have to say.

Three Ways To Save a Little Time Each Day

You know that person who always seems to have time for everything? You know the one… the PTO President, room mom, Girl Scout AND Boy Scout Leader, Booster Club Member, Ladies’ Sodality Member, Soccer mom of 10 kids who always talks about the latest book she read and donates 10 quilts to the school fundraiser each year? Yeah… HER!

Well, I am not quite a busy as she is, but I am pretty darn busy. I am constantly getting asked how I do it all. I typically say something funny like, “Who knows!?” Seriously, though… I do have a few tricks up my sleeve that I am going to share with you.

#1 – PLAN YOUR MENU!

I know that you are wondering how on earth adding an EXTRA task to your to do list can help you save time… but, it honestly can. If your menu for the week or month is basically laid out, you don’t have to fret over it each night. You know what to purchase at the grocery store, what to pull out to defrost, or what to load into the crock-pot. Plus, you save money because you aren’t having to order take-out or make last minute runs to the grocery store. :-)

#2 – DON’T WASTE WAIT TIME!

We all have those ridiculous time wasters, USE THEM! Doctor’s Office, Vet, School Pick Up Lines, Sports Practice… take things with you: phone calls to make, bills to pay, correspondence, notebook for brainstorming and drafting posts, crafts, magazines, your menu planning materials, etc. *Also be sure you aren’t adding extra wait time to your schedule! Make doctor’s appointments for everyone on the same day!

#3 – MINIMIZE TELEVISION USAGE!

If you can’t give up your shows, find something you can do during them. Even if you only watch television 1 hour a day, you are losing 365 hours a year! How many hours are you wasting in front of your electronic box? CSI, CSI NY, and CSI Miami waste 3 hours a week. :-) Idol and Survivor add three more hours. Seriously, think about it.

Maximize commercials! Did you know that the average 60 minute show has 18 minutes of commercials? What can you do in 2 and 2? Rotate a load of laundry, wash a load of dishes, pull out supper for next night, iron a couple shirts, do some jumping jacks, etc. :-)

Kelli writes tips and tricks to being a fit, stay at home blogger who parents (or parent who blogs? LOL!) at 3 Boys and a Dog. She also has a weekly “Blogging Basics” series that everyone should check out. :-)

Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

101 Stories about Life, Love, and Lessons

Dogs have always been considered companions and playmates that brighten and enrich our lives but they are also wonderful and amazing teachers. The lessons we learn from our canine friends come in all shapes and sizes, just like they do. In this book, dog lovers share what they have learned from our greatest heroes and healers. Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog will delight readers with humorous, heartwarming, and inspiring stories about lessons our canine friends and family members have taught us.

What I really like about this book is that there are many chapters, each with a different story. You don't have to actually read everything in order like most books. There are different clips of stories and advice from different people. Of course all of these stories have to do with our furry little friends.

We have two dogs of our own, so I really took this book in and learned a lot of things. There were quite a few stories I read aloud to the rest of the family. Chapter 6: Learning to Say Goodbye really got to me because one of our dogs just turned 9. She's perfectly healthy and happy now, but she may not have much longer. She's getting old. It was comforting to read through other stories about saying goodbye.

Buy It!

You can buy Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog: 101 Stories about Life, Love and Lessons for $10.17 on Amazon.

3 lucky winners will each receive a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from the Dog!

COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Concealer and COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector Review

I have always been a fan of COVERGIRL make-up products. I've been using them since I first started wearing make-up and continue to use their products today. I can honestly say that I have never had a complaint and their prices usually beat the competition.

COVERGIRL recently came out with some new products and of course I jumped at the chance to try them out! COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Concealer and COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector work together to brighten the skin under the eyes and hide the look of dark circles.

I always have dark circles around my eyes. I'm not sure if it's because of lack of sleep or because I'm starting to get older. The later is definitely a scary thought, trust me! Either way, I have them and they're hard to hide.

I started using the COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Concealer and Corrector about a week or so ago. I noticed the difference almost immediately. The dark circles were gone and my skin was more even toned. Both of these go on nice and light, so I can't even feel the difference. Neither of them are oily, greasy or cakey. I love the difference in my eyes, the circles are gone.

Buy It!

COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Concealer and COVERGIRL & Olay Simply Ageless Corrector are both available for a SRP of $10.99 at retail stores nationwide.

I was given a product for the purpose of reviewing. Opinions expressed are my own or my families and are not influenced by any form of compensation. Take it or leave it. Click here to view my full acknowledgment policy.

Door Open by Ian Rankin Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

Doors Open

Three friends descend upon an art auction in search of some excitement. Mike Mackenzie-retired software mogul, bachelor and fine art enthusiast-wants something that money can't buy. Fellow art-lover Allan Cruickshank is bored with his banking career and burdened by a painful divorce. And Robert Gissing, an art professor, is frustrated that so many paintings stay hidden in corporate boardrooms, safes and private apartments. After the auction-and a chance encounter with crime boss Chib Calloway-Robert and Allan suggest the "liberation" of several paintings from the National Gallery, hoping Mike will dissuade them. Instead, he hopes they are serious.

As enterprising girlfriends, clever detectives, seductive auctioneers and a Hell's Angel named Hate enter the picture, Ian Rankin creates a highly-charged thriller, a faced-past story of second guesses and double crosses that keep changing the picture, right until the harrowing finish.
The last book I read before this was about art theft too. I found it interesting and enticing, wanting to know more. I knew that Doors Open would definitely have to be the the next read on my list.

I have never read one of Ian Rankin's books before. I found out what I have been missing when I read Doors Open. Ian writes in a way that I haven't seen very often. He tells the story almost like you're there. He successfully tangled your average every day guys with a crime boss and just made the story move and continue to go on.

I really enjoyed Doors Open and got completely caught up in the story. This was another of those page turners I just couldn't put down. I stayed up half the night finishing it up.

Buy IT!

You can purchase copy of Doors Open for a discounted price of $16.49 on Amazon.com

Win It!

A total of 3 lucky winners will receive a copy of Doors Open by Ian Rankin!

To Enter The Giveaway:

Sunday Feature - The Eclectic Element

I am happy to announce that todays feature is with my dear friend Kayla from The Eclectic Element. She makes some beautiful pieces of jewelry and is an absolute sweetheart! This piece below is just breathtaking!

Tell us your name and a little about yourself.

Hey everyone! If you don't know me, I'm Kayla from The Eclectic Element-and of course if you do know me, then Hi! I'm 20 years old and currently reside in the oh-so-lovely (yes, that is indeed sarcasm) state of Illinois. Unfortunately, I'm not able to go to school or hold down a job at the moment due to my 6 year battle with Lyme Disease. Even though there is so much bad that goes with chronic illness, there can be a lot of good as well-If I hadn't had all this free time, The Eclectic Element would never have been born!

What led you to start making the things you do, and how long have you been doing this?

Well, when I first contracted Lyme Disease, I was in 8th grade. At the time my family and I weren't sure what I was sick with (only 5 years later will I get an official diagnosis), so it was a difficult time for me. One of my math teachers, who knows what it's like to be chronically ill, sort of took me under her wing and brought me to one of her support groups where they were making bracelets. I made my first piece and I was hooked!

What inspires you most?

Many things act as an inspiration when it comes to my jewelry, but I guess the materials themselves are what inspire me most-When I pick up a particular bead or random finding from my stash, I'll suddenly envision what the end result is going to look like and before you know it I'm off making that vision a reality!

Tell us one of the most memorable things while creating or selling your art/craft.

Wow, it's extremely tough just picking ONE! I'm going to have to say meeting the amazing people I have meet through my jewelry design.

Do you have any advice for other artists/crafters?

You've probably heard this time after time again, but I'm going to tell you just one more time so it can finally hit home(if it hasn't already that is): Do what you love. If your doing what you love just for the sheer fact that you love it, you'll notice the hours go by faster, your genuinely happy when your doing your thing and you produce quality work that is unrivaled because it's made with love :)

You can find Kayla at the following places. Stop by and show her a bit of love!

Don't forget that I'm always looking for other Etsy shops to feature, so if you have a shop let me know! Feel free to email me through the contact button at the top of my blog. I'm still on the lookout for guest posters too, so let me know if you have something you'd like to share with my readers!

My Frigidaire Stove Has Arrived!

Many of you know that I was one of the lucky women selected to be a part of this year's Frigidaire Test Drive Team. I am on Team Range/Microwave and as you can imagine, I am super excited! Even more exciting was when my appliances arrived Monday. I couldn't peel the big cheesy smile off of my face if I tried!

We did have to install a cabinet above the stove and run electricity since it wasn't already there, so I didn't get to have it all set up right away. However, that was just a minor setback and fortunately I was able to use my stove right away.

Breakfast was the very first thing I cooked on it. Just look at the mess I made on that beautiful stove! I was so sad that I made that mess right away, but easily got over it when I found out how easy it was to just simply wipe away!

I made homemade pizza the other day and was amazed at how fast the oven preheated. I couldn't believe how fast it preheated with PowerPlus Preheat, literally just a matter of minutes! Since pizza was my thing, I was so glad I noticed something before I put it in the oven. This stove has a pizza setting! Yes that's right, I said a pizza setting. How awesome is that? Pretty dang awesome if you ask me because sometimes pizza is just easier to make than an actual meal.

So you wonder how my pizza turned out? It was absolutely amazingly delicious! Of course that was in big part due to my awesome cooking skills, but I bet that pizza setting helped just a little bit since the whole thing cooked better than usual.

So you get the point that we really like the stove right? Are you wondering if the kids like it?

I'm not sure how they feel about the stove, if they have any feelings towards it at all. They sure do like the box that the microwave came in though! Lil Man started playing with it right away and begged me to let him sleep in it that night. We compromised a little bit. We ripped one side and laid it out flat, then they both got to lay in it while they watched TV and went to sleep. Big Bro did end up on the bed eventually though. I guess he's just not as into boxes as his lil bro.

I realized Wednesday night while I was lying on the couch that we had another issue. The chimney was right behind where our stove currently sat, so how would we even be able to mount anything to that wall right there. We wouldn't be able to. We would have to move the stove over. One problem I thought of was the electrical outlet for the stove would be in the way on the floor and wall. I had images in my head of my stove sticking out 4 inches further than it should and immediately felt discouraged. Then we just went in there to see what our options were. Frigidaire must have already though of this problem in other people's homes because the bottom of the back of the stove kind of caves in if you will. The stove slipped right over the outlet, perfect!

The Man and I installed the cabinet yesterday evening, and my dad came by later to run the electric for the microwave. After about 5 very long hours everything was finished and ready to have the microwave installed. It was an exhausting evening, but we all knew it would be worth it in the end.

The guy came to install the microwave today and as you can see it looks great! I haven't had a chance to try the microwave yet, but it all looks good to me. So far I am very happy with everything and so excited to be a part of this team and have the chance to try these appliances!

I wrote this review while participating in a Test Drive Campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Frigidaire and received a Frigidaire Range/Microwave to facilitate my review.

Aloha Friday

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that you take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question this week is:

What did you get for Valentine's Day?

Mr Man got a heart shaped box full of chocolates {which I ate 3 and gave the rest to him lol, because half of the ones in those boxes are disgusting, or dark chocolate} and a card. The card was nice though because he never gets me cards.

Math Tips from Lionsgate Home Entertainment

I am a mother, so of course I am all about learning. I have found LeapFrog to be a wonderful asset to helping children learn, so I am excited to share the launch of the new DVD with you! The LeapFrog: MATH ADVENTURE TO THE MOON DVD will be released on February 23rd by Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Lionsgate Home Entertainment is ‘Count’down to the DVD release by offering up Math Tips aimed at easing a child’s fear of math and making learning fun. While I will probably not be able to post these tips every day, I will share as much as I can!

TIP #1: Math is everywhere!
Next time you're in a waiting room with your child, scan the room (or the magazines on the tables) for evidence of "math." Advise your child to find as much math as possible, and you can give clues if you need to. Numbers, patterns, shapes, categories, and measuring devices (e.g., ruler, scales), are just a few examples of some of the math you might see all around you!

TIP #2: Patterns and Codes are All Around Us!
Make patterns using standard household objects. For example line up repeated objects--sock, stuffed animal, sock, stuffed animal, and so on. Next, ask your child to continue the pattern to figure out the "secret code." You can vary the difficulty of the pattern to suit your child's ability--banana, banana, pear, banana, banana, pear. You can also make deliberate errors that your child needs to find--pear, apple, bananna, pear, apple, banana, pear, pear, banana
.

I did not receive any form of compensation for this post. I simply wanted to share these tips and the release of the new DVD with you.

Review and Giveaway - Jovan Satisfaction for Men and Women {CLOSED}

I love to smell good. In fact perfume is a daily essential for me. I will walk out of the house with no make-up on with my hair in a pony tail before I will walk out without some kind of fragrance on. Call me weird, whatever. I like to smell good.

I have always been a fan of Jovan Musk, so when I heard about Jovan Satisfaction for Men and Women I was all over it! I couldn't wait to try the notes of sweet mango, lotus flower and warm vanilla in Jovan Satisfaction for Women since Mango is actually one of my favorite scents. All three of those scents together, forming Jovan Satisfaction for women is just the right scent for me. It mixes very well with my body chemistry and smells great. The price is great too, perfect for everyday use.

Now that you all know how much I like to smell good, the same goes for my guy. I love when he smells good. Honestly, I think scent may be one of my biggest turn ons. Jovan Satisfaction for Men offers a bold and masculine scent with notes of grapefruit, cardamom, cedarwood and amber. Mmmmmmm, I think it smells divine!
