HEXBUG Nano In-Home Party - Worms & Dirt Recipe and More!

I was sent some really cool toys last year around the holidays. We opened them up and had a blast with them. They are called HEXBUG Nano, a little robotic creature that behaves and moves like a real bug!

My whole family just loved them and we played with them all the time. Yes, even the adults thought they were cool! We had guests over during the whole holiday season and somehow the HEXBUGS always came out!

Since we are big HEXBUG fans already, I jumped all over an opportunity to host my very own HEXBUG Nano In-Home Party! You don't even know how excited I was when I found out I was chosen as a host! Then I got to share the good news with my family and they were jumping and screaming like maniacs. True story!

The wonderful people from HEXBUG sent us a huge box full of HEXBUG accessories for the party. They also included enough HEXBUG Nanos for each guest to take home 3 for themselves!

We all know that no party is complete without food! I was supplied with "buggy" recipes and created a few of my own to feed my hungry guests. I made Worms & Dirt and Ants on a Log. I'll share the recipes below! I did alter my Worms & Dirt recipe slightly from the one they sent me.

Worms & Dirt

Ingredients:
  • One pkg chocolate sandwich cookies
  • 1 package instant pudding
  • Gummy worms
  • 1 - 12 oz tub whipped cream
Directions:
  • Place cookies in large plastic bag and crush
  • Make pudding according to package directions
  • Mix whip cream in with pudding
  • Put 1/3 cookie crumbs in bottom of bowl
  • Put half pudding/whipped cream mixture on top of that
  • Add gummy worms on top of layers as you go
  • Repeat previous 3 steps
  • Put remaining 1/3 of cookie crumbs on top {which of course i forgot to do!}
Chill 4-5 hours before serving

Ants on a Log

Ingredients:
  • 2 large stalks of celery, washed and cut crosswise into halves or thirds
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter or cream cheese
  • 1 cup raisins and/or dried cranberries
Directions:
  • Fill each celery stick with peanut butter or cream cheese and sprinkle top with raisins and/or dried cranberries for the creepy crawly effect!
The kids had a really great time during the party. There were so many HEXBUG Nanos racing around the habitat, it was awesome! The kids were having races, wars, you name it! We set up the bridge too and two at a time were battling on that.

After we let the kids have some fun playing around with the habitat, we went outside for a game! We played "Bugs in Your Pants" which is kind of like "Hot Potato". Here's a picture of all the kids playing and I'll even include the instructions below!

All you need to play are 3 HEXBUG nanos, music and friends!

How to Play:
  • Have all the kids sit in a circle and choose someone to be "it". The elected player stands in the center and close their eyes.
  • All players in the circle place their hands behind their back and begin to pass one HEXBUG around the circle keeping their hands behind their backs.
  • When the music stops, the player in the center opens his eyes and points to someone he believes has the HEXBUG Nano and shouts "Bugs in your pants!" If he chooses the correct player, that person moves to the center and the game starts over. If he does not find the right person, the game continues with that person being "it" and another HEXBUG is added to the circle.
After the games were over, The Man drew one of the guest's names from a bowl and they won a Nano Bridge Battle Habitat Set!

IO received a box full of goodies from HEXBUG and One to One Network for hosting this party. Opinions expressed are my own or my families and are not influenced by any form of compensation. Take it or leave it. Click here to view my full acknowledgment policy.

Lunchtime Challenges: Win Sara Lee Deli Meat for a Year!

SARA LEE® DELI ASKS AMERICA’S MOMS TO SHARE THEIR LUNCHTIME CHALLENGES WITH NATIONWIDE ESSAY AND PHOTO CONTEST

Contest winner will receive a home visit from celebrity chef and mom Alex Guarnaschelli and free deli meat for a year

Sara Lee Deli recently launched a nationwide contest which asks parents “What’s Your Lunchtime Challenge?” The new Sara Lee Fresh Ideas® pre-sliced and sliced-to-order deli meats campaign offers moms the opportunity to share their stories with the Sara Lee Deli online community, connect with other moms about their everyday lunchtime challenges and a chance to win a once-in-lifetime prize: a home visit from celebrity chef and mom Alex Guarnaschelli, as well as free deli meat for a year!

To enter the contest, moms submit a 100-word-or-less essay and an accompanying photo of their child (or children) that captures the essence of their lunchtime challenge. The contest will be hosted on the Sara Lee Deli Facebook page, www.facebook.com/saraleedeli, where consumers will have the opportunity to view the photos and stories of all contest entrants.

During Guarnaschelli’s home visit, she and Sara Lee Deli will help the winner solve her lunchtime challenge by taking her shopping and teaching new ways to approach this important meal with her family in mind. She will also offer an extravaganza of lunchtime solutions for the winner and 10 friends in the winner’s kitchen. The winner will also receive a year’s supply of Sara Lee Deli meat to really simplify lunch for her family.

In addition to being part of the prize, Guarnaschelli will serve as a resource for moms visiting the Sara Lee Deli Facebook page by providing regularly-posted tips, advice and recipes.

A lot of moms dread making lunches because their kids won’t eat them,” said Guarnaschelli. “As a mom, I know what it’s like to have to provide nutritious and great-tasting lunches for the people I love and am looking forward to helping other moms around the country approach lunch in a new way.”

Sara Lee Deli will accept “What’s Your Lunchtime Challenge?” entries through October 3. Voting will take place from October 4–13 and the 25 finalists who advance to the judging round will be announced on October 14. The Grand Prize Winner will be selected from the top 25 finalists and announced on November 3 – National Sandwich Day.

The “What’s Your Lunchtime Challenge?” contest is the latest Sara Lee Deli social media initiative following the brand’s earlier “Mama Saga™” and “Saga Solver™” video campaigns, both housed on the Sara Lee Deli Facebook page www.facebook.com/saraleedeli. The videos were created with Second City Communications and are a series of humorous confessionals designed to connect with and help moms through the typical, everyday dramas they face at home. The “Saga Solver” social media campaign offered moms valuable advice and insights from three nationally recognized experts to help solve their everyday “Mama Saga” moments.

Jiffy Lube "Keeping My Ride Alive" Review & Giveaway {CLOSED}

Vehicle maintenance is a must for the life of your vehicle. If you don't do regular routine maintenance, it's really not going to last as long as it should. Not to mention, other things can go wrong if you don't maintain it properly. That of course leads to added expenses in caring for your car or truck and can be quite expensive.

More and more people are aiming to get more life out of their vehicles. I'm sure that's largely in part to these tough economic times that many of us are going through. Really though, what's wrong with that? Absolutely nothing, I say! While a nice shiny vehicle is nice to have, there's nothing at all wrong with getting the most out of your vehicle and hanging on to it.

You're not along in wanting to keep your ride alive. A 2010 Jiffy Lube International survey revealed that drivers hope they can keep their vehicles longer. Here's a few results from that survey.
  • More than half of U.S. drivers hope to hit more than 150,000 miles on their vehicle before replacing it
  • More than a quarter are looking to clock in more than 250,000 miles before throwing in the towel
  • Services: While 99% of drivers agree getting their oil changed regularly will help prolong its life, most are looking for additional services during their oil change visits to help keep their ride alive
  • Convenience: Nine in 10 people agree having other key vehicle parts and fluids checked during their regular oil change is the most convenient way for them to maintain their vehicle’s value and longevity
  • Speed: More than half of U.S. drivers (59%) agree it is important to have their oil change finished in 30 minutes or less

The Jiffy Lube Signature Service® Oil Change is more than just an oil change. It is a preventive maintenance program that includes changing, inspecting, checking/filling and cleaning key vehicle parts and fluids, offering drivers a quick and convenient way to maintain their vehicle’s value and longevity.

Jiffy Lube recently launched a "Keeping My Ride Alive" Facebook page to help consumers who would like to attain high mileage on their vehicles. You can cruise the site and hear stories from other people who drive high mileage vehicles and even check out photos. You can share your own stories too!

My Trip to Bentonville Arkansas, Courtesy of Sam's Club and Sophyto Demo

I know you've all been waiting patiently to hear all about my trip to Bentonville, Arkansas. I'm sorry I've kept you in suspense for so long, but things have been so busy around here. I've been playing catch up with the house, the kids, the blog, you name it!

Some of you know that this was very first trip in an airplane. It was pretty scary and exciting all at the same time. I actually passed right over my house but didn't even realize until I noticed our neighborhood park. My son saw a plane that flew over his school right around the time mine took off and thinks that it was me, so that's kind of cool!

Arkansas from the plane

I arrived on Tuesday evening and had about a half hour to spare after checking into my room before I would go to the lobby to meet some of the other Sharing the Savings bloggers and Brandi, one of our amazing reps from Rockfish Interactive.

I think meeting all the new people was the thing that I was most nervous about because this was my first blogging event. I had never chatted with any of the other women before, and just really didn't know what to expect.

We left the hotel and headed to dinner. We took a shuttle bus and everyone was chatting away on the way there. We met some other people from Rockfish Interactive as well as Sam's Club at Table Mesa, our dinner location. Everyone was so friendly. We had great conversations and delicious food.

Wednesday started with a SEO Class where we learned some great tips from the Rockfish Interactive team. This was one of my favorite parts about the trip because I really learned so much. I found some great tools to use to help my blog be seen more. I've started implementing a few, but need to work on that all a little bit more. I'll share some ideas with you all in a few weeks!

Sophyto Product

After the class, we went on a journey to this amazingly beautiful house which belongs to one of the VP's of Sam's Club. Him and his wife were gracious enough to open up their home for our Sophyto Demo Experience. We learned all about these great products that are new to Sam's Club and even got to try some!

A few of the bloggers were able to get a facial and try Sophyto products first hand right there at the Sophyto Demo Experience! This was also when we first met the camera crew who filmed us throughout our trip. It was really a lot of fun!

After the Sophyto Demo, we went back to the hotel where hair and make-up artists awaited us. Each of us got our hair and make up done, then did a photo shoot. Here's my head shot.

When that was finished, we went into one of the hotel conference rooms for a "Meet and Greet" reception where we got to mingle with the other bloggers and hear some organizational tips. Then we went to Copeland's for dinner where I had the best burger of my life. Although, after what poor Courtney from The Art of Being Mom found in her dessert later that night, I highly doubt any of us will be dining there again!

Stay tuned for more about my trip later! Hint: food, wonderful food!

Gouda Cheese Ball Recipe - Get Fresh Cheese from Sam's Club

I'm sure you've heard people from Wisconsin labeled "Cheese Heads" before. Isn't that what the Packers are partly famous for, the big slice of cheese that fans wear on their head? Well the label definitely fits for me, besides of course actually wearing that big ugly hunk of cheese! I am a lover of all things cheese!

That's why I am very excited to share this news with you. Sam's Club now carries 24 internationally acclaimed varieties of cheese in the the fresh department! Some of those cheeses include Mario Batali Organic Parmigiano Reggiano, Blue Stilton and DaVinci Gouda just to name a few.

I had the chance to sample a whole bunch of these cheeses and let me tell you, they are delicious! I even made some yummy recipes and have one to share with you! I chose the Gouda Cheese Ball because it's perfect for this time of year. I don't know about you, but I'm always on the lookout for quick and easy fixes for entertaining and this cheese ball is just that and is sure to be a hit! I served mine with Sociable crackers, YUM!

Now I don't have a picture to share and I know that just totally sucks! This really is a super easy and self explanatory recipe though, so you'll do fine if you try to make it at home!

Gouda Cheese Ball

  • 8 oz soft cream cheese
  • 2 1/2 cups shredded Gouda cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
  • 1/4 cup sliced sun dried tomatoes in oil {drained}
  • minced garlic {whatever you like for taste}
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
  • crackers
Mix {soft} cream cheese and Gouda cheese until well blended. Stir in chives, tomatoes and minced garlic. Shape mixture into a large ball and roll in parsley. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until firm. Serve with crackers. I used Sociable crackers, but you can use any kind.

This recipe was a big hit with all of my guests and it's great as an Hors d'œuvre. Who doesn't like to munch on cheese?!

Sam's Club just launched a Facebook app where you can learn about all of the additional cheeses they have to offer. You can even enter to win a trip to Paris {Just promise to take me with you, m'kay?}! You can also check out some great cheese recipes from the other Sharing the Savings bloggers! Make sure to check it out, because I heard all about some of the yummy recipes when I was in Bentonville!

Also, make sure to stop by the Fall Harvest site for information on the cheese entertainment, great recipes and Oktoberfest beers among other great info. There are some great ideas to help make your Fall Harvest parties a success!

I've been sharing a lot of info with you over the last couple of weeks pertaining to Baby Month at Sam's Club. I've told you all about the benefits of buying off brand items because it saves so much more money. I've also discussed how you can still save on those name brand items by shopping at Sam's Club. Well if you know me and my style, I like to save the best things for last!

That being said, I'd like to introduce you to Click 'n' Pull, a new awesome way to shop at Sam's Club!

I haven't had the chance to personally try this yet but I have heard great things about it from some of the other Sharing the Savings bloggers. It definitely saves time and hassle and will most likely be my new way to shop, especially during this crazy super busy Holiday season coming up!

Click 'n' pull is really easy to use. Just simply follow these steps and voila, you're done!

  • Go to SamsClub.com.
  • Sign in to your SamsClub.com account.

Great Wolf’s 48 Hour Sale

I'm sure some of you are aware that we're big fans of Great Wolf Lodge around here. We've been there a few times and have had a blast every time! There's so much fun stuff to do and you don't even have to be a kid to enjoy it! Now me, I like all the water rides. But if you're just not into that, there are hot tubs to relax in too, or a lazy river to float around. The one in Wisconsin Dells even has a spa!

The thing I like best about Great Wolf Lodge is that it's not just a summer time destination. There's so many indoor activities that you can take a vacation in the fall or winter and still have tons of fun in the water because it's all indoors and heated! Great Wolf Lodge also features Snowland, which begins in early December. I've never been yet, but I've heard great things about it!

I have something great to share with you! Starting today at 10:00 AM, Great Wolf Lodge is having their biggest sale of the year! Check out Great Wolf’s 48 Hour Sale and use promo code 48HOUR to save big!

Infiniti Pro by Conair 1875-Watt Salon-Performance AC Motor Styling Tool Review & Giveaway {CLOSED}

I have used Conair product since I was young. In fact, I think my first blow dryer was Conair.

Well I just had the chance to try another blow dryer from Conair, the Infiniti Pro by Conair 1875-Watt Salon-Performance AC Motor Styling Tool. It has an AC (alternating current) motor, which is typically designed for salon use. But, the Infiniti Pro by Conair is 15 percent lighter than most AC motor dryers! Here's some information about an AC motor and its significance:
  • Quiet, yet powerful air velocity to dry hair faster and lessen heat exposure/damage
  • A true blast of cold air when “Cold Shot” button is engaged, to better set your style or provide lift at the roots
  • Up to a 3x longer life span as compared to typical (DC motor) hair dryers!

Don't just take my word for it. Check out the new commercial for the Infiniti Pro by Conair 1875-Watt Salon-Performance AC Motor Styling Tool. You'll see just what all the hype is about!

So what are my thoughts on the Infiniti Pro by Conair 1875-Watt Salon-Performance AC Motor Styling Tool, you ask? I really like it. I think it's a great tool. There are different levels of heat and power as well as a cold switch to help lock in curls and styles. It works absolutely great and even looks super stylish with it's metallic burnt orange color! I was surprised at how light it is. I was expecting it to be a little bit heavier. That's really a plus for me because my bathroom is tiny! I couldn't imagine trying to maneuver something heavy in that small little space.

Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue Movie Review

Before she was ever introduced to Wendy and the Lost Boys, Tinker Bell met Lizzy, a girl with a steadfast belief in fairies. Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue begins in summertime in the beautiful English countryside. An enchanting encounter unfolds when Tinker Bell is discovered by Lizzy, and as their different worlds unite, Tink develops a special bond with the curious girl in need of a friend.

As her fellow fairies launch a daring rescue, Tinker Bell takes a huge risk, putting her own safety and the future of the fairies in jeopardy. This action-packed adventure takes the fairies of Pixie Hollow on a daring flight to London to save Tinker Bell and all of fairy kind.

I am an absolute lover of all things Fairy. Watching the friendship grow between a fair and a human was just totally magical and made this my favorite Tinker Bell movie yet!

One of my favorite parts during the movie was when Tinker Bell taught Lizzy how to fly. She flew all around her room and made quite a mess! Lizzy's flying skills sure did come in handy when they had to fly to London to save Tinker Bell's friend Vidia!

I absolutely loved the whole movie. As I mentioned above, this was my favorite Tinker Bell movie so far! It's great for audiences young and old alike.

Here's what Lil Man had to say about Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue:

Me: What was your favorite part?
Lil Man: When the cat was chasing them and then they {the faiarys} were riding it.

Me: What did you like best about the movie?
Lil Man: That the fairys can make stuff like a bridge.

Me: Who was your favorite character?
Lil Man: The cat.

I have a fun craft to share with you thanks to Tinker Bell and her fairy friend Vidia! Now you and your kids can create a wind wheel and watch the wind blow. The best part is you probably have all the materials lying around your house!

Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue (Two-Disc Blu-ray/ DVD Combo) came out on DVD yesterday and is available for $21.99 at Amazon.com. Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue is also available for $16.99.
