Disguise Captain Jack Sparrow Deluxe Adult Costume Review

Halloween is right around the corner and since I just redid my blog into a creepy Halloween theme, I thought to myself "What would be more fitting than fun Halloween ideas to celebrate?" I couldn't think of anything, so here we are! I'll be sharing some fun Halloween costumes, ideas and recipes with you for the rest of the month! Are you ready to be spooked?

Disguise has a huge assortment of costumes for people of all ages and sizes. I had s much fun browsing through their site and came up with a few costumes that my family would really like.

We're big Pirates of the Caribbean fans, so I thought a Jack Sparrow costume would be fitting for the Man. Disguise sent us the Captain Jack Sparrow Deluxe Adult Costume and I can't wait to see him all dressed up in it for Halloween! I think a lot of us women have secret Jack Sparrow fantasies {minus the nasty teeth of course} so it should be quite the treat to see my guy all dressed up as him!

Besides sexy costumes for me, Disguise carries a huge assortment of kids and other adult costumes. Check out the Medusa, Monster Bride and Princess costumes below!

Hayneedle Cuisinart BFP-703CH SmartPower Duet Blender/Food Processor Review and $50 Gift Certificate Giveaway {CLOSED}

With the holidays right around the corner, people everywhere are trying to get their houses in tip top shape before it's time to entertain. So for the rest of this month, I am bringing you must have products to help you do just that!

Hayneedle is a wonderful one stop place for basically any of your home shopping needs. They carry a huge variety of products from outdoor furniture and decorations to stuff for your pets. I have gotten lost in the site for hours on a couple of occasions just browsing through and wishing I could afford everything in there!

Recently, I was browsing their site to pick out something that I would like to review. I happened upon the small appliance section and found the Cuisinart BFP-703CH SmartPower Duet Blender/Food Processor. I knew that it would be the perfect addition to my house and would be just awesome to have for the holidays. We do a lot of entertaining around this time of year and with this, I can prepare food and drinks!

I received my Cuisinart BFP-703CH SmartPower Duet Blender/Food Processor last week and couldn't wait to try it out. My birthday was last Saturday, so I made a big ole pan of lasagna and had some friends over for dinner and drinks. We tested this baby for the first time making Strawberry Daiquiris.

So how did they turn out?

Absolutely amazing! This bad boy has an ice crush feature right on it, so of course I just had to test that feature out. I was so happy and excited  when the ice was perfectly crushed and there were no huge chunks of ice while I was trying to indulge in my delicious drink. Our drinks turned out perfect!

Above are just a very small sampling of other items that Hayneedle carries. I could totally see that lovely chaise lounge chair in my living room. I bet I'd even be caught taking a nap on it every afternoon once or twice.

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Vacuum Review

With the holidays right around the corner, people everywhere are trying to get their houses in tip top shape before it's time to entertain. So for the rest of this month, I am bringing you must have products to help you do just that!

I have always heard good things about Bissell vacuums. I have never actually tried their vacuums, but I do have the Little Green and I love it. It works great on the stains that seem to happen constantly in this house.

When I saw the Pet Hair Eraser Vacuum, I just knew it would be perfect in my house. See, we have two dogs. One has extremely long hair and she seems to shed like crazy. A few years ago, we got another that has shot hair. The funny thing is, the short hair is the most troublesome around here. It embeds itself into fabrics and the carpet and is a royal pain to get out.

Here are some of the features of the Pet Hair Eraser Vacuum from Bissell:
  • MultiCyclonic separation for superior suction
  • Pet Hair Lifter and rotating brush remove dirt and pet hair
  • Includes Pet Contour Tool® and Pet TurboBrush®

The Man was sick the day that the Pet Hair Eraser Vacuum came, so Lil Man said he'd put it together for me. He calls himself Mr. Fix It Fix It and says that's what his business name will be when he grows up. The kid will try to put together, take apart and/or fix anything that he possibly can. I figured I'd let him take a shot because really, what could it hurt.

He was able to get it out of the box and start assembling it. The Man and I did step in to help so that the process was that much easier and shorter. It was pretty easy to assemble, although the Man couldn't tell left from right. Check out the video below of us assembling it. You're in for a good laugh for sure!

I actually vacuumed with my old one right before we started the assembly process. As soon as the  Pet Hair Eraser Vacuum was assembled I just had to try it out right away. I used it on the same rug that I had just vacuumed minutes before and you would not believe the dirt and pet hair that was in the canister. It actually kind of disgusted me because all this time, I thought my floor was clean when it really wasn't!

We were both totally amazed at how well this vacuum worked. I was especially excited that I was able to try this out and use a product that works great for my family and my house. Don't take my word for it. see it in action for yourself!

As you can see, it works pretty darn good! It picked up everything with ease, including the pet hair and ferret bedding. The suction power is amazing and the brushes work great too.

We're not the only ones who tried this baby out wither. My next door neighbor didn't realize she had run out of bags for her really expensive vacuum, so she asked if she could borrow mine. Her husband and her were having one of those deep cleaning days and didn't want to be interrupted with a trip to the store. Of course I said they could use it because I wanted them to see for themselves how great it works because I had been talking about it over the weekend.

Her husband brought the vacuum back and told us it worked amazing and he couldn't believe all the cat hair that was all over their house and they only have one cat!

My brother in law was here the other day and saw the Pet Hair Eraser Vacuum. He's a dog owner too, so he wondered how well it worked. We told him to go ahead and try it out and he was amazed. So much so, that when I walked into the room he was checking it out on the website because he wants to buy one!

Winners of the Holiday Traditions Video and Essay Contests

The verdict is in!

The judges have voted for their favorite essay and video for the Holiday Traditions Video and Essay Contest hosted by Sam's Club.

The winner of the essay entry for the Holiday Traditions contest is April Yedinak from Hodgenville, KY. She won the Nikon Coolpix S3000 12MP Digital Camera! Check out her essay below.

Santa's Crazy Helper

"As children get older, they start to question the existence of Santa. In an effort to prolong this magical part of their childhood, we have a Christmas Eve tradition of planting Santa evidence that would keep the North Pole CSI guessing for months.

Of course, there is the usual eating of cookies and quaffing of room temperature milk- leaving visible bite marks in sugar wreaths and lip prints on the glass. Where we veer off the normal track is outside the house.

Carrots and apples are left on the porch for the reindeer with the appropriate bite marks (I am now stuffed). Snow or dirt is used to make deer tracks. A few sleigh bells are scattered, along with some hastily gathered 'deer dropping' pilfered, with gloved hand, from a neighbor's yard (Merry Christmas people with the Great Dane).

The final touch is sled marks made using a pair of 2x4's that we drag across the lawn, evenly spaced for several yards. At this point the egg nog has usually begun to override our discretion and we are giggling and snowball fighting at 3 am in our pajamas.

Lack of sleep- priceless, because my kids still believe!"

The winner of the video entry is Tiffany Snedaker of Eagle Mountain, UT. She won the 26” Magnavox LCD 720p HDTV! Check out her video below.

Congrats to them both! I just love the essay and that video cracked me up! I think they both did a wonderful job and I bet they are super stoked to have won such awesome prizes!

Christmas In Canaan - Movie Review and 3 Copy Giveaway {Closed}

"Capture the spirit of the holiday season with the inspirational family film that captured the hearts of millions on The Hallmark Channel; Christmas In Canaan, arriving on DVD October 5 from RHI Entertainment and Vivendi Entertainment. In the rural town of Canaan, Texas amongst the rising heat of the civil rights movement, widower Daniel Burton (Billy Ray Cyrus; Grammy Award ® nominee, “Hannah Montana”) is doing his best to raise his three children without prejudice. Despite all efforts, his 10-year-old son, DJ (Zak Ludwig; Martian Child), has made an enemy of his classmate, Rodney (Jaishon Fisher; “Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story”), simply because Rodney is black. In an attempt to remedy the situation, Daniel, along with Rodney’s grandmother Miss Eunice (Candus Churchill, “The Andromeda Strain”), decide to force the boys to spend time together. It is then that the two kindred spirits learn about compassion and overcome racial tensions, forming a lifelong bond. Amid the spirit of Christmas, the boys experience the gift of friendship, the power of hope and the true meaning of family. Christmas In Canaan is based on the book co-written by Grammy Award® winner Kenny Rogers."

It all started with the dog. The boys heard a shot and saw the neighbor with a shotgun. They went to investigate and found that the guy had shot a poor dog. That's when the two boys finally agreed on something and they both tried their best to help get the dog to the house. They continued to work together to nurse him back to help. I think that's where their friendship formed.

Rodney came to live with the Burton family. Christmas was really rough that year and they couldn't afford many presents. Daniel came into the living room with his arms full of gifts and gave his family "Some Christmas". It was such a beautiful gesture and totally made Christmas so much better for everyone despite their lack of gifts.

Christmas In Canaan was a great movie and I absolutely loved it. Billy Ray Cyrus was perfect for the part as the father, who had a heart of golf and did his best to teach his children right from wrong. He showed them the way that people should be, instead of the horrible way that they actually weer back then. Friendship and love sees no color and that is what he instilled in his children.

I think Christmas In Canaan is a great movie that shows what Christmas really should be about, love. It would definitely be a great gift for anyone this holiday season!

Wordless Wednesday - Family Photos Gone Bad

I am doing photo card this holiday season, so I figured the fall leaf piles would make a great background for them. I also thought playing in leaf piles would give the boys something fun to do for awhile, especially Lil Man since he just broke his arm and is pretty much restricted not to do anything fun.

Too bad my family didn't feel the same sentiment. These are the only 3 family shots I got and none of them work. Fist off, then Man refused to sit in the leaf pile {must be his fear of spiders} and Lil Man refused to smile. As you can see, it didn't get better from there. The dogs wanted at a squirrel and wouldn't sit still for the life of them.

I gave up on the family shots and took about a hundred of just the kids, together and by themselves. I got about 9 that turned out and I'll choose 3 between those. Half the time, I just couldn't get a smile from them. It was utter chaos and I was going to give up quite a few times. Finally they actually had fun with it and I got some great shots.

Another Year Came and Went

I grew a whole year older on Saturday. It sure isn't as exciting as it was when I was younger. In a sense, it's just another day. There's nothing special or new or exciting to look forward to.  It's just another day and is definitely treated as such.

I can't say the whole day totally sucked, but in a sense it did. I was just a little disappointed about how things turned out, but had a great time in the end with the people that really do care.

I have learned though. I will change my ways. I will not be the first to make sure that I brighten up others days, when they can't even do the same for me. Call me bitter. Call me what you will. I will not feel sad at the hands of others. I refuse to feel sadness for things that really ultimately don't matter. I will let it go and focus on the people that really do matter, my family. The rest of them can bite me and I can't wait until something is needed from me. I won't be there anymore. I will no longer be the loyal friend who is there anytime you need. Because what goes around comes around and I saw the true colors.

Something good did come out of it all though. I fell in love all over again. It sure is great to have that feeling 12 years later, the years not taking a toll for the worse. I love him and I love my boys. Life has a funny way of working out, even if you thought it didn't.

Aloha Friday - Broken Bones

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that you take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So Kailani thought that on Fridays she would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question this week is:
What bones {if any} have you broken?
I have fractured each of my legs and chipped a bone in one.

My youngest, Lil Man on the other hand... He just broke his arm for the second time! Same arm too!
Photobucket

A Broken Arm... AGAIN

The school called around 2pm. The receptionist said she had Lil Man in the office and he thinks he broke his arm. They're not sure because they're afraid to take his hoodie off. We flew over to the school to get him.

He had a couple of ice packs and the secretary said "Normally we don't let kids take these home, but I can see he needs them. Can you just make sure you return them?" REALLY? You're only concerned about the ice packs? Pfft, whatever! Am I wrong for being just a tad upset about that statement?

We get to the ER and it's packed. They took us in the little room and checked him out. There were no rooms available, but the nurse ordered x-rays right away. She had us sit in the waiting room until they were ready for us. It only took about 10 minutes until someone came.

The whole ordeal didn't take a whole long time and we were in and out in less than 2 hours. Not bad for an ER visit, especially never even having our own room.

He did break his arm. It's the same one he broke about 2 years ago {after falling out of a tree} and pretty close to the same spot. It hurts, but they gave him stuff for pain.

So, how did this happen?

He was playing on the playground at recess and was going down a pole. I guess there are other poles by it and his arm got caught on his way down.

Poor kid. Doesn't he just look miserable? :(

He's got a nasty scrape at the top of his arm too. That one looks so painful.

So, you want to hear a funny story?

On the way to the hospital, he asked in a sad voice "I am going to have to get a wooden arm now?" I couldn't help but laugh as I told him no, his arm will be fine.

He had a hoodie on, so the doctor said they were going to have to cut it off. He was like "Wait, what are you cutting off?", thinking they were cutting off his arm!

Then, in the waiting room after x-rays he asked "So, were do do the cutting?" We told him not to worry, that they wouldn't be cutting off his arm!

Yeah, my kid's not only a total klutz, he's a goofball as well.

I am kind of an overbearing mom when it comes to them doing stuff that they could get hurt doing. That is because of situations like this, broken bones, stitches etc. Lil Man especially is just a very clumsy kid and always has been. I suppose after today, people will realize there really is a method to the madness!

Febreze Home Collection Wooden Wick candles Review & $15 Walmart Gift Card Giveaway {CLOSED}

I have been a big fan of Febreze since the very first time that I ever used it. It is definitely a must have in my house and it even goes camping with us so that our bedding can always smell fresh.

Well Febreze has a home collection now and I was lucky enough to check them out!

"Available in nine premium scents, these tranquil candles are specially designed with a wooden wick to recreate the ambiance and sound of a crackling fire indoors. Offering a brilliant range of everyday fragrances, Febreze Home Collection Wooden Wick candles can help inspire a scent and design transformation in your home."
I love candles. Seriously, I think I have a deep obsession with them. As soon as I received the Febreze Home Collection Wooden Wick candles, I had to tear into the package. I couldn't wait another minute because I have really been wanting to check these out.

I can tell you right now that I was not disappointed in the least bit! In fact, the Febreze Home Collection Wooden Wick candles far surpassed my expectations. I am usually not big on jar candles, but these jars actually look nice and are something that I feel comfortable showing off in my house. They are extremely fragrant. In a good way, not a bad way. They smell just delicious. I swear if I didn't no any better, I'd eat the anjou pear spice one right up!

The Febreze Home Collection Wooden Wick candles seem to last pretty long too. It says that you can enjoy 80 hours of burn time and that sounds about right to me. I've burned them each a couple of times {for 3 hours each time} and you almost can't tell. About 1/4 inch of the wax has melted, if that.

Colgate Pop Stars 2in1 toothpaste for Tweens - Review

Halloween is right around the corner and since I just redid my blog into a creepy Halloween theme, I thought to myself "What would be more fitting than fun Halloween ideas to celebrate?" I couldn't think of anything, so here we are! I'll be sharing some fun Halloween costumes, ideas and recipes with you for the rest of the month! Are you ready to be spooked?

I know nobody wants to think about oral care during Halloween. However, it is extremely important, especially this time of year. With all of the candy our kids are going to be eating after they go trick-or-treating,we need to make sure they will be brushing.

"Colgate Pop Stars 2in1 toothpaste for Tweens is a mild mint flavored toothpaste that features star breath strips that dissolve inside the mouth for long lasting cool, fresh breath."

My oldest so has been using Colgate Pop Stars 2in1 toothpaste for Tweens for a couple of weeks now and he likes it. He said it has a good flavor and the stars in it are cool.

I like that it helps protect his teeth from cavities and bad breath. The stand up flip top bottle works much better in my bathroom that the regular tubes too because I don't have to worry about the kids losing the cap or making a huge mess.
