“Through rhythmic verses, Cooper and Me tells the story of a young girl who is nervous as her first day of school approaches. She is frightened about leaving home and doesn’t want to go without her best friend, her dog Cooper. Fortunately her mother finds the perfect solution to help the little girl overcome her fears ? a small replica of her beloved pet she can take to school with her.”
This book is too cute! My kids (okay not my 4th grader) love to read and re-read Cooper and Me. They 100% related to the little girl in the book who wants to take her dog Cooper to her first day of school. My kids took a stuffed animal to school (we don’t have a real life Cooper) with them during their first year. I love that the little girl is given a look-alike stuffed animal of Cooper to take with her to school. I just got all warm and fuzzy!
Not only is this a very cute story, but at the end there are “fill-in the blanks” for your child to describe his/her very own first day of school. It includes a spot for the child’s name, grade and the date. As a scrapbooker, I am so happy those are included! The book includes sections on:
- “Life Lesson – dealing with separation anxiety and new place” that helps you talk to a child about separation anxiety.
- “Connections,” includes questions you can ask your child about separation anxiety.
- “Learning Together,” allows you to assess your child’s comprehension of the story.
Another amazing fact to me is Alexa Peters, the 11-years old daughter of the author, Monique Peters, illustrated the book. All proceeds from the Cooper and Me book are donated to Happy Hearts Fund. Happy Hearts improves children’s lives through education and sustainable programs in natural disaster areas. How amazing is that?
