In WHAT IS HE THINKING??, Rebecca interviews a range of men from high-profile types to the guys next door, men that every woman can relate to. Although the interviews focus on single guys ages 20-35, Rebecca also includes words of wisdom from older mentors she respects who have been successfully married for years, people like her dad, life coach, and pastor.
The men share their thoughts on topics like how women can respect themselves and the men in their lives, modesty, purity, taking it slow, friendship, letting guys lead, and more. This book gives them the floor to say what they would really like women to know.
Australian born Rebecca St. James, is a Grammy Award winner in the Christian music genre and a multiple Dove Award recipient. She is the voice of the character of Hope the Angel in VeggieTales bestselling DVD production, The Easter Carol. In addition to being a Christian pop rock singer, Rebecca is also a songwriter, actor, musician and author. “What is He Thinking”?? , her ninth book, was released on September 26, 2011.
With a title like this I could not resist wanting to read this book. I have wondered on more than one occasion what men are thinking. It is one of those things where I am really curious. Even though I have asked guys that I know questions about certain things, I have always felt that the answer is always what the guy “thinks” I want hear, not what they really think.
The men Rebecca chose to answer questions are a mixture of a few different types. These types include the guy next door, older men she respects and admires and men that are already taken. I like that she did this because I am interested in different perspectives. Rebecca interviewed 16 single guys, ages 18-35 and 11 married guys. When it came to choosing questions, Rebecca had a few of her own but she also asked some of her closest girlfriends what things they wanted to know. Some of the questions were:
- What do guys think about girls that pursue them?
- What do you expect on the first date?
- Do guys ever pray about finding the right girl?
- What are the biggest marriage killers?
- What do you feel you did right during your dating days?
- What makes you feel respected?
Once I picked up What Is He Thinking??, I dived right in. There are 8 chapters in this book. Each chapter starts off with a bible verse related to the questions being asked. Within the chapter there are boxes of information that share Rebecca’s thoughts, tips, and direct quotes. Some of the topics discussed are:
- Spiritually Connecting : God and Guys
- Getting Serious: What Are They Thinking About Marriage
- First Impresssions: What Are Guys Really Looking For?
- Married Mentors: What Did They Learn?
At the end of every chapter is a list of takeaways. The list is a summary of things to take with you and remember. One of my favorite takeaways is “Don’t read into everything. Try not to make things complicated.” I am guilty of this and have been working on not doing it.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is great to hear what guys are really thinking, especially from a Christian perspective. I learned a lot.
