Eating healthy organic food always seemed a little time consuming, even if it was the better choice if you take the time to think about where your food comes from and especially what it is. I’ve watched multiple documentaries on food products, water and even studied reading labels, but honestly… when it came down to needing something quick none of it mattered to me. I have two kids (one on a first shift / one on a second) a husband that works nights and I write for two blogs; everyone eats at different hours and some nights I just want whatever is going to be the quickest which often leaves me feeling guilty. I’m sure some of you understand that feeling all too well!
The Organic Bistro is a wonderful compliment of organic food and frozen (fast) food. The ingredients are written out clearly, the nutritional information is even available to view online. They’re also Gluten Free and Low Glycemic; which I am sure those of you on special diets are praising right now! I was given the opportunity to review one of their meals, The Wild Salmon with Pesto – Wild Caught Alaskan Salmon with Basil Pesto and Chickpea Pilaf, Zucchini and Green beans. I was really excited to try their Wild Alaskan Salmon meals. Ever since I moved away from the coast it isn’t something that you see regularly on the menu and generally every few months I pick up a few lbs (Not usually seeing wild as an option at the supermarket) and make it myself. Pilaf is also a dish that takes hours to make so that is a rare one unless it comes out of a box with unknown preservatives and additives. I loved the idea of being able to enjoy a healthy meal of Wild Salmon and delightful pilaf that wasn’t time consuming, anytime I wanted!
Although the Wild Salmon meal didn’t turn out looking exactly like the pictures on the boxes (which I assumed and thus was not disappointed) it was delicious; especially the rosemary orange glaze on the Wild Alaskan Salmon Meal, which added a perfect combination of herbal sweetness. The Wild Salmon with Pesto went well with the Chickpea Pilaf, and they didn’t overdo it which was nice. Pesto can sometimes be overpowering but it went well with this dish. Nothing was too dry (as some frozen meals turn out) and the broccoli was actually crisp. Overall it turned out to be a wonderful little meal, something quick that I don’t have to feel guilty about. Since I wanted to share I purchased another box for my son Cody who is also a seafood lover and all he had to say was that next time I should make our salmon like The Organic Bistro’s (with the rosemary orange glaze).
