Magnetic Board for Team Standings

Hello Everyone
This week I made a project for my son.  He is a total sports nut and is into collecting the new plastic team helmets.  He has the NFL, NHL and brought home the MLB last night.  So, what are you suppose to do with these helments?  I guess you display them in accordance with the current standings.

I was over at a friend's house and her son had the MLB helmets too.  I asked her what he does with them and she said, I am not sure, but I am going to get a magnetic board, glue a magnetic to the helmet and let him display them.  BRILLANT!  I loved the idea and ran to Michael's for magnetic, found the board I wanted at Target and headed home to work on today's project.

I chose to start with NHL since we are entering play-off time.  I first tried to adhere the magnetic to the helmet with Zip Dry glue (love this for craft projects).  It did not work very well with the plastic.  Next I tried my Glue Dots and those didn't work either.  Lastly, I pulled out the oldie, but goodie glue gun.  That seemed to do the trick.  I glued te magnetic to the inside of the helment.

Arranged them per the standings and whaa-laa done.  I think he is going to be so happy with this.

Remember, I love comments,so let me know what you think and I will be back next week with another craft project!

P.S.  I also tried it with hs NFL and MLB helments

Windows Phone 7 Review

"Quickly customized and constantly updated, the Start screen is home on Windows Phone 7. One glance tells you what's going on, what's happening next, what you've missed. Depending on the app, Start's animated Live Tiles might show pending messages and appointments, news and weather, or game and friend status—all refreshed wirelessly via the web. It's also yours to decorate: pin people, apps, playlists, pictures, and other favorites to Start so they're always at your fingertips."

I was never much of a "tech savvy" person until two years ago when I started blogging. Then I started spending a lot of time online and found that I literally cannot live without the internet! I am always checking my emails, Facebook, approving comments in Blogger, all of that.

Unfortunately, the phone I use is pretty outdated. Don't get me wrong, it's new and works great. But, it's a flip phone and you actually have to push the normal keypad to text, so it take five times as long. It's really a royal pain!

I was asked if I would like to check out the Windows Phone 7 and I sure wasn't going to say no. I think I may have actually jumped out of my seat in joy! I was excited to be able to use a phone that I could actually text, check emails, Facebook and surf the net with.

What I didn't really understand is how much more this phone was actually capable of doing! I could go on and on for hours about every little thing I love about the Windows Phone 7, but neither of us have that amount of time, so I'll share some of my favorites instead.

First of all, I love the maps and the GPS. We've been house hunting and both of these tools have definitely come in handy. Sometimes we would have literally been lost without them! We had a few people over last week and everyone was playing with the map. My neighbor told me I could quote him when he said the map is "absolutely amazing"! He did check out the Giggle Pad too just to see what it was. It was kind of funny watching a grown man playing with an app for babies!

We played some trivia that night too and realized we all needed a refresher in State capitals. We didn't even get half of them right! That's horrible!

I used to be a big fan of Scrabble, so I checked out the Table Tiles app. It's a lot of fun, but I am horrible at it! The camera is totally awesome and snaps a great shot in about a second! The kids like the Math App and were doing pretty well at it.

The Windows Phone 7 even comes complete with a Kindle App! That is the main one I want to try, but haven't had a chance because I'm in the middle of a book that's taking forever due to my lack of time these days.

All in all I have to say that this phone is amazing. everyone that's checked it out has thought the same too!

Buy It! You can buy Windows Phone 7 at Microsoft.com.

I recently found this site that seems like a great way to make some extra cash on your site. LinkWorth helps you find advertisers that are interested in advertising on your site. It's simple to use and you do not have to sit there emailing back and forth with a potential advertiser. If you are an advertiser, you can also find sites to advertise on through LinkWorth. I've heard good things about it so far and am hoping I will sell some ads soon. Then I'll share first hand my experience with the whole thing. But for now, I'd love for you to sign up for LinkWorth under my affiliate link. I could potentially make some extra cash if you do well too!

The Hunt Is On... House Hunt That Is

Bet you thought the guys were going hunting again at first, didn't ya?

Nope, there's no time for a Spring turkey hunt here. We're busy, busy right now.

I mentioned earlier that we would be looking for a bigger house. We've been searching and searching, finding a few here and there. The problem is the area we want doesn't offer a whole lot in our budget. The dream of a big chuck of land is out, 1/4 to 1/2 acre will just have to suffice.. and it will. It's much bigger than the tiny excuse for a yard that we have now.

We have written down addresses, drove around to look at the exact location etc etc until we're blue in the face. We have one possibility at this moment that may work for us. It's about as far as we're willing to move, but the house has so much potential after quite a bit of work is done. Some {like the flooring and of course paint} will need to be done before we move in, but others could be done over time to give it that personal touch with more than enough room for us all. The yard is gorgeous, lots of room and mature trees. There's even a cute little garden shed in the way back of the yard.

It's right off of a river that the Man has fished for years, only a few blocks away from his usual spot. No water access of course, but only blocks away. We could take nice scenic walks and all of the boys could fish their little hearts out. The schools are all pretty close and we wouldn't be stuck in the middle of nowhere without nearby stores. Honestly, that was one of the things I was worried most about. There's a big Pick n Save in the area so I wouldn't have to spend a fortune at some mom and pop grocery. There are lots of restaurants and even a Walmart, Menards and more nearby.

I found a few more yesterday that I'll go drive by today if I have the time. I'd like to schedule appointments and look at a few more before we make a decision, taking one of the biggest steps of our life.

House hunting is supposed to be fun and I think it normally would be, But given the circumstances, I just wish it could be done and over with. I am so tired of looking and coming up almost empty handed. I just want to find "the one" and be done with it. It's almost worse than finding a soul mate. Hell, that was the easy part!

So for now our search and the stress that comes with it continues, but hopefully we'll be done soon. Then we can just focus on moving and moving forward. We just need a fresh start in a new place. We need to try to put all the hurt and pain behind us and living next door to where dad used to live, walking out the back door, seeing the house and thinking of him... it's just not helping us let go. It's a painful memory of a life cut to short.

Muttles Review and GIVEAWAY! {CLOSED}

Have you heard of Muttles?  If not, let me tell you all about them!  If you have, don't you just love them?

Muttles, an all new collectible puppy brand is set to earn high marks at Javits Center during the American International Toy Fair. Billed as “A Whole New Hybreed of Fun,” Muttles is based on the designer dog trend and features mixed-up breeds with fun names such as Labradoodle, Puggle and Snorkie. The product premieres in stores February 15, with a $3.99 MSRP pack that includes an adorable 3” Mini-Plush, 2 Trading Cards, a Tattoo Set, and an Adoption Certificate with a unique registration code assigned to each Muttle.
Owners can register their new puppy and build a Muttles Puppy Profile at muttles.com by selecting a name, entering its birthday and gender, and customizing by selecting from a menu of favorite things – food, toys, tricks, place, and bff. Muttles owners can also participate in some “Social Petworking” by sharing their pages, viewing the brag book and playing online games. Participation in Muttles.com is free with registration of a pup.

Muttles was founded by Gail Tilden, a brand and marketing executive with over 30 years experience in developing and promoting youth trends. She is also Senior Marketing and Brand Development VP for Enterplay, LLC, a trading card and collectibles company based in Connecticut. A former VP Brand management at Nintendo of America, Gail was responsible for promotion and expansion of Nintendo's characters and franchises like Mario and Zelda beyond the video game arena and she notably led the strategy and introduction of the Pokémon brand outside of Japan. She founded and headed Nintendo's publishing group and managed branding and marketing for the launch of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Gail resides in Woodinville, Washington with her husband Ron. Their three children, Eric, Allison and Hannah often serve as her sounding board.

"I was inspired to create Muttles by our family dog, Ollie, an Australian Labradoodle whose ancestors were a Labrador and a Poodle,” said Gail. Our family had so much fun saying all the other mixed-up dog breed names, like Chiweenie and Cavachon, and we’d try to figure out what parent breeds created them. I wanted to find a way to share the fun our family was having with these Muttles, and from there our brand was born.”

Creata (USA) Inc. is the manufacturing partner for Muttles Mini-Plush packs. Trading card and collectibles company Enterplay, LLC, based in Guilford, Connecticut, will handle distribution."

Review: My kids and I just LOVE them. These little dogs (one can easily fit into the palm of my hand) have become a life-saver for me. My kids are ALWAYS bringing a stuff animal with them when we are out and about. This is the my solution (and a win-win for all). Now my kids are allowed to take their Muttle with us and I can put them in pocket, purse, kids jacket pocket, etc. and they don't take up any room. Everyone is happy.

My kids enjoyed the tattoos (they were cute) and the trading cards. We also went online to www.muttles.com and create their puppy profile. This mom and her kids give Muttles two thumbs up.

Last Tango in Paris Blu-ray DVD Review

Last Tango in Paris is without a doubt one of the most controversial films of all time. It's raw portrayal of sexual violence and emotional turmoil shook the world for almost a decade beginning from it's release in 1972. Banned by multiple governments, tapes seized by police, the Director's (Bernardo Bertolucci) civil rights revoked in Italy... Last Tango in Paris left in its wake a media frenzy and in the end still received two Oscar nominations: Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Director.

I had never seen Last Tango in Paris until it arrived in the mail. I had no idea that the film I was watching had been banned in multiple countries or that the actor/actress had such disgusted feelings after having created it. In today's time, Last Tango in Paris wouldn't seem so out of place. We've become numb to most areas of violence, little shocks us, even R Ratings do little to stop people from picking up a film. We're a little more jaded than we were at that time, in my opinion, but even with all my numbness the scene where Marlon Brando laments in perfect monologue over his deceased wife shook me to my core. There was no doubt that he deserved the nomination for Best Actor in Leading Role despite the movie's many controversies. His role as Paul was spectacular.

The film in it's basic points is about a man named Paul (Marlon Brando) who had lost his wife from suicide. During the movie I was caught between feeling as though he perhaps murdered her or drove her to madness, but it never tells you why she did it. The man meets a young Parisian woman named Jeanne (Maria Schneider) and begins to carry on an affair with her in a loft they are both interested in. Deciding to never speak of anything about themselves they carry on what is in it's basic nature an animalistic desire that is both willing and ultimately unwilling at times. When Last Tango in Paris ended with Jeanne repeating the same words to herself while staring off in the distance, I was left with a feeling of sickness, a hatred and a deep love for both of the characters and what they had ultimately lost or had stolen from them. In truth I had no idea how I was going to write a review on this movie that left such a powerful imprint and yet was so morally horrifying.

If you can watch this movie while keeping in mind it's artistic and historical form, then it is an amazing movie to watch for it's value. The acting is so staggering that it almost made it painful for me to read that in the most controversial scene wherein Jeanne is horridly abused by Paul, that her tears are real and that she actually felt the emotional pain. Even though it was made in the 1970s it is still as powerful as if it had been released yesterday. I recommend this movie only to the strong of heart, it is absolutely not a family movie and one that will either leave you horrified or amazed, or quite possibly both. I must agree with Pauline Kael, a renowned critic, when she said:

"Tango has altered the face of an art form. This is a movie people will be arguing about for as long as there are movies."

It's Time to Bundle Up

Given that it is so cold today and we got six, yes six inches of snow yesterday, I am going to share with you a scarf I had to knit for one of my daughters. I thought Spring had sprung, but Mother Nature thought differently.

The yarn used is Pom-A-Doodle by Red Heart. I got mine at Michael's, but I have seen it at Joann's, AC Moore and Hobby Lobby.

This yarn was fun to work with, but a little tricky too. To start: Using US size 9 knitting needles, cast on 12, and just knit, knit, knit until the scarf is as long as you like. The trick is to knit 3 times in between the pom-poms. If you keep with the pattern above (knit 3), your scarf will lay nicely and you can knit around the pom-poms.

This was a very easy scarf to make and took very little time. The only negative....hand wash only.
Remember, I love comments, so please let me know what you think.

Glow Crazy Review

What kid hasn't drawn on the walls before?Mine have {of course when they were much younger!} and boy, what a mess to clean up! Well now you can let your kids draw on the walls. I bet they'll even thank you for it!

Glow Crazy is a super fun activity that you set up right on your walls! It comes with 2 jumbo canvas wall clings that can actually be removed. The Dual-Action Magic Light Wand allows you to draw on the surface from a distance without messing up your walls! You can draw freehand or use the stencils that are provided in the kit to draw all sorts of fun stuff.

The Dual-Action Magic Light Wand makes everything that you draw visible only on the wall clings, so there's no worries about messing up the paint on your walls. So let your kids get creative and have some fun!

Glow Crazy was so easy to set up. Of course I read the directions, but really there was nothing to it. You simply peel the paper off the back of the wall cling and stick it to a flat, clean and dry wall. Easy, peasy!

My kids have been having a blast with Glow Crazy. They've been drawing up all sorts of fun stuff. Even the teenagers are getting a kick out of it. Ok, I must admit, I am really the first one that tried it. Unfortunately, I was forced to give up the wand. Hey, someone had to show them how it was done, right?

Check out the  Glowtivity Center for fun games and downloadable activities!

Buy It!

You can buy Glow Crazy for $24.99.

The Company Store Kid Design Contest

The Company Store Launches Kids’ Design Contest to Benefit Homeless Children Across the U.S.
Are your kids creative? Do they like the idea of helping someone else? How about seeing their artwork come to life?

The Company Store, celebrating their 100th anniversary this year, will accept original artwork from children 12 years and under in this promotion!

The winning piece will be transformed into a comforter print for their ongoing 'Buy One, Give One' Comforter Donation Program, in which The Company Store donates a new comforter to a homeless child for every comforter sold. What a great cause! I'm telling my 12 year old niece to get in on this one.

Directly from their press release:

LaCrosse, WI (March 8, 2011): The Company Store, celebrating their 100th anniversary, today announced the launch of their Kids’ Design Contest, a program geared at inspiring creativity while supporting art education and charitable work among America's youth. Under this initiative, The Company Store will accept original artwork from children 12 years and under. The winning piece will be transformed into a comforter print for their ongoing Buy One, Give One Comforter Donation Program, in which The Company Store donates a new comforter to a homeless child for every comforter sold.
"Since launching this endeavor in January, we've seen an immensely positive response from consumers who view this as an opportunity to make a purchase while simultaneously giving back to their community,” says Dennis Warner, Chief Marketing Officer of The Company Store. "This next phase is a chance to engage and involve children while demonstrating that making a difference in the world can be both enjoyable and rewarding."

Big Sisters Zucchini Bread Recipe - Manda's Meals

Every year my sister Melanie makes up a bag of goodies for everyone at our big Christmas. It is filled with candies, great, great Grandma's fudge and best of all, her home-baked breads. She has an art with bread that I cannot master. I can bake them and they turn out perfectly like bread, but they don't have that touch of love that they're endued with when she gives them in her bag of treats. There is something special about getting a gift made with love and time from a person so dear to you, the taste isn't only of the ingredients mixed in, but of the care it took to prepare it. I decided yesterday after getting the recipe from her that instead of making it just to have a picture for you, I would wait for my Christmas goodie bag. I hope that you enjoy this recipe, it is one of the best Zucchini bread recipes you'll ever have in your book. It always reminds me of a day, many years ago, when I had made fun of my eldest sister Melanie for having burned boiled water; now she is one of the few people I call when I need a good "feels like home" recipe. It just goes to show you that you shouldn't make fun of your sister for her cooking, she'll always wind up making you eat your words with your dessert.

What You Need

3c of Shredded Zucchini
1 2/3c of Sugar
2/3c of Vegetable Oil
2 tsp of Vanilla
4 Large Eggs
3c of Whole Wheat Flour
2 tsp of Baking Soda
1tsp of Salt
1 tsp of Ground Cinnamon
1/2 tsp of Ground Cloves
1/2 tsp of Baking Powder
1/2c Coarsely Chopped Nuts (She likes to use Walnuts)
1/2c of Raisins

Preheat your oven to 350'. Generously grease a bread pan before starting, lightly coat flour over the oil. If using a spray, you must still coat with flour.

Blend the Flour, Baking Soda, Salt, Cinnamon, Cloves and Baking Powder in one bowl.

Blend the Zucchini, Vegetable Oil, Vanilla, Eggs, Nuts and Raisins in another bowl.

Once the dry ingredients are blended together and the wet ones separately, then you can mix them all together in one big bowl. After you are done, pour everything into your greased and floured bread pan.

Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick and come out clean. And that's all it takes to make a really great Zucchini Bread.

Note: She said that if you want it to be more moist and have less cholesterol, use full fat yogurt. However, this is also untested so if it doesn't come out right can't say I didn't warn you!

PS: Thank you Melanie. =)

Rain Man Blu-ray DVD Review

Rain Man debuted in December of 1988 and became the highest grossing film of that year. In the year following it would go on to win the People's Choice Award, the Golden Bear, the 39th British International Film Festival Award and 4 Oscars; not including the other four it was nominated for.

Even though I was young at the time of it's release, I remembered this movie. Dustin Hoffman, in his role as Raymond Babbit, was so exceptional that it would have been impossible not to. The story in it's basic sense is about a self-centered man named Charlie Babbit (played by a young Tom Cruise) who, after his father dies, finds he has a brother to whom the inheritance was left. In his attempt to regain the inheritance, Charlie removes his brother Raymond from the psychiatric facility he had been living in to travel cross country to meet with his lawyer since Raymond has a fear of planes. Charlie soon learns that Raymond is Autistic and more importantly for him, he has superb recall and is excellent at mathematics. Faced with the fact that his Autism is not curable, Charlie uses Raymond's skill in Vegas. Along the way Charlie finds out why he was unaware of Raymond's existence and soon finds himself becoming protective of his brother who he realizes he truly loves. It is a story about family in the deepest sense; how deep the bond is between brothers. It is a remarkable movie with outstanding, exceptional acting that is only heightened by the Blu-ray experience.

If you love this movie, had once loved this movie or if you are a rare person that had never seen it... I entreat you to watch it on Blu-ray. Dustin Hoffman had won Best Oscar that year in 1989 for a very good reason and it's superb technology gives such vivid appeal to his almost genuine character. Rain Man is, without a doubt, one of the most exceptional movies of our time.

Rain Man Blu-ray DVD can be purchased for $14.99 on Amazon.

Blue Lagoon Iceland Anti-Aging Day Cream Review and Giveaway {CLOSED}

I am a self confessed beauty product junkie. I am always in search of that magic potion in a bottle and I always feel let down by every face care product I try. They are either too thick and heavy on my face, feel greasy, make my skin breakout like I am a 16 year old high schooler or smell like perfume. I have tried many types from the drug store brands to the higher end department store beauty counter products but have never found the one that fits my criteria in every way until now. Being the beauty product junkie that I am, I was excited to review the Blue Lagoon Iceland Anti-Aging Day Cream.

I have been using the day cream for a few weeks now and I can not think of a single negative thing to say about it. It is incredibly light weight, absorbs into your skin very nicely without any oily/greasy feeling and the most important thing for me is that it didn't make my face breakout like so many other products do. It has a very subtle and pleasant smell and I don't feel like I just sprayed perfume on my face. I fell in love with this cream right away and the more I use it the more I love it. My skin feels and looks amazing. It is softer, smoother and more radiant.

"Anti-aging day cream Daily care moisturizing¹ and nourishing cream enriched with patent-pending natural Blue Lagoon bl_m5 complex² and Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater. An innovative formula that helps stimulate the skin's natural defense system and protect against environmental exposure. SPF 15. Helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Helps reveal the radiance of a smoother and softer skin.

¹ Moisturizes the upper skin layers.
² Blue Lagoon bl_m5 is powerful natural complex of patent-pending Blue Lagoon algae and silica extracts capable of strengthening the skin's natural barrier function, preventing UV-induced collagen degradation and stimulating production of collagen3. For maximum results the natural ingredients are encapsulated in chronobiological liposomes that penetrate the skin's layers.
3 In-vitro and in-vivo tested on DNA level. "

The Blue Lagoon skin care line consists of full face and body lines for all skin types. All of their products are hypoallergenic and dermatology tested and they do not test on animals which is important to me.

Buy It!

Currently on the Blue Lagoon website, they are offering the Nourish Face Care Collection for
a special price of $145.00. The Nourish Face Care Collection includes a full-sized anti-aging day cream and two smaller bottles of the foaming cleanser and toner for $145.00. This is like getting 2 products for FREE!

Just Jen Custom Spaghetti Tank Review and Custom Shirt Giveaway - Open to US and Canada! {CLOSED}

What girl doesn't love clothes? Just Jen offers much more than just clothes though. They have designs that you can choose from or you can make your very own custom design including bachelorette t-shirts and bridesmaid shirts! I know right where I'm heading when I can finally start planning my wedding. My girls and I will be styling at that bachelorette party!

But since that date is yet to be set and there is so much more going on in my life right now, I just chose a custom spaghetti tank for my review. My tank looks similar to the one shown here, except I chose a rhinestone star right in the middle on my tank instead of the "Rock Star".

I love wearing my tanks underneath shirts or sweaters with low cut necks. I was hoping this shirt would fit great because you never know until you try it on. I was very pleasantly surprised when it fit perfect! Not too short and not too snug, just right.

I've been sporting my shirt lately and have gotten many compliments. Everyone thinks it's so cool when I tell them it was custom and there are a ton of designs to choose from. This shirt is also great to wear as a cami to sleep in and I may even wear it as a regular tank once Summer finally rolls around.

Buy It!

You can buy custom shirts from Just Jen starting at $29.90 and personalize to your little heart's desire!

SYNONYMS Game Review & Giveaway - Great For All Ages! {CLOSED}

"SYNONYMS, the word game that gets your mind racing!
Synonyms is a new high-energy board game designed to help parent educate kids. Turn off the TV, put the wireless games aside and sit down with family and friends and have some brainpower-building fun with the exciting new board game that improves reading and verbal skills.

SYNONYMS is a great family activity and party game that builds everyone's active vocabulary. It is a timely word challenge that entertains and educates for 2 - 8 players, ages 10+.

Parents Linda Hymes and Derek Gaffney designed the fame as a fun way to help educate their kids. Players race their pawns around the board to be the first to collect all the letters of the word SYNONYMS. A roll of the die and a card is selected. The player has one minute to earn a letter by naming the designated number of synonyms - unless a competitor declares a challenge! Mind race at maximum brainpower as each tries to top the other. Pass and Challenge cards add strategy and equalize the odds for all players.

SYNONYMS comes with 400+ color-coded cards with over 10,000 empowering vocabulary words and difficulty can be varied according to the skill level of the players. Never be at a loss for word again - Play SYNONYMS!"

My children are 7 and 9, so I had modified the game for them to play. We all LOVED it. In fact, my kids continue to ask if we can play. That says something right there, doesn't it? We played with the Easy cards for my 7 year old and Easy and Moderate cards for my 9 year old. I would say the word and then use it in a sentence. This allows my kids to think of SYNONYMS for the word. We try to use some of the words in our everyday conversations as well. I have to admit... this is a great game for parents too. You could also play with several people and form teams.

I know a lot games I tend to buy seem focused more on math skills and so I was very excited to give this a try. We all LOVED it! I recommend you consider purchasing it for all school age kids and modify the game if needed. Oh, the kids are calling me, time to go play another round of SYNONYMS!

Buy It! Visit Synonyms site for more information or you can purchase it for $29.99 on Amazon.

My kids couldn't stop watching this DVD. They absolutely loved it. I asked my kids two questions and made them write their answers (had to make up for all the TV time!)

1) Did you like Beyblade Metal Fusion Volume 3? Hands down all three wrote YES! That would be 3 thumbs up (out of 3).

2) What was your favorite part/episode? Of course I got three different answers to this question. From my 7 year old twins: When Ginka was talking to his Dad and when Hyoma led them Keyoma village, it was cool. When Genta was relaxing in the water, it looked like so much fun. From my 9 year old: I can't just write about one favorite part, I like the whole dvd. It is so awesome, right? Right.

I think if you or your kids are a Beyblade fan, you will love this DVD. Now for the great news....you guessed it, we have one to giveaway!
