Baseball, Apple Pie and Fourth of July!!!

I remember my grandmother always saying this time of year.....Baseball, Apple Pie and Fourth of July! Of course my grandfather (the farmer) would always say, "the corn needs to be knee high by the Fourth of July!" Priorities! My grandmother loved baseball, her favorite team being the Detroit Tigers. I know, I know...but being from Michigan, we are die-hard fans. Her apple pie was loved by all. I honor of my grandmother, I made this......

Supplies:

Tin pail/container - $1 at Target
Firework straws - $2 at Target
Flag Tootsie Rolls, red and blue starred Tootsie Pops, and Baseball gumballs - Wegmans bulk aisle

I filled the pail about 3/4 full with shredded paper (yup, all those credit card applications that went through the shredded!). I filled the rest of the pail with the Tootsie Rolls and Baseball gumballs. Next I stuck 5 of the firework straws in the bucket (cutting the front 2 shorter). The last step was to add the Tootsie Pops.

I took this to work and they were totally amazed (right brain accountants!!). The guys LOVED the Baseball gumballs and had a great walk down memory lane. Do you remember them as kid? My siblings and I use to love them. The Flag Tootsie Rolls were a big hit too. None of use have every seen them.

Summer Fun- Bummis Swimmi Diaper Review and Giveaway! {CLOSED}

We live on a wonderful little cloth diapering planet here at Bummis that we and our employees have created. We have a lovely factory with lots of plants and natural light, and our offices are situated there as well. We also have two beautiful little stores in the Montreal area where we sell tons of cloth diapers, baby carriers and breastfeeding supplies. In addition we have a warehouse and a small staff in upstate NY, in the very scenic 1000 Islands. We all really enjoy working on our special little planet refuge at Bummis, and we have a great team - all of whom care passionately about what we do and how we do it.

Well how sick are you of paying that ridiculous amount for the special 'swim' disposable diapers??? If you've had just about enough of that, I've got a diaper for you! Not only are these diapers oh so economical and adorable, they work great! We had the chance to review the 'Turtles' Swimmi for B, he's 2 and about 30lbs or so. I'll admit it, I was a wee bit nervous about taking him to our subdivision pool wearing just this as his diaper, but I need not fear. It does fit snugly and has an inner mesh lining that would keep anything undesirable 'in'. You do not wear anything underneath it, you have this and that's all you need!

I love our new Swimmi and plan on getting a couple more for the twins. You'll love not having to spend $10 a pop for the disposable swim dipes and might even consider doing that with regular diapers too. What a great way to ease into it!

Summer Fun - Complete Idiots vs. Dummies Challenge and Review

I have been asked to participate in the Complete Idiots vs. Dummies challenges. Yes, my husband got the biggest kick out of this challenge!

I was able to compare side by side, The Complete Idiot's Guide to Facebook and Facebook for Dummies and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Social Media Marketing and Social Media Marketing for Dummies.

The day that this arrived, the kids started playing with it right away. They thought it was super cool, even in the daytime. When nightfall hit, they were so happy that the fun didn't have to stop!

The Aerobie Skylighter Lighted Disc seems like it would be harder to throw and catch because of it's size, but that's not the case at all. Throwing it is a breeze and catching is pretty easy, even for the kids. It really is a lot of fun!

"Where Is Your Voice?" - You Can Do A Graphic Novel by Barbara Slate Review!

You Can Do A Graphic Novel is an exceptional How-To book for those wishing to create graphic novels. Barbara Slate gives advice in a very fair and complementary way that is quite attractive and easy to understand. I originally decided to review You Can Do A Graphic Novel for my son who likes to draw cartoon figures with stories, I wanted to show him he could express himself in a more fundamental way; starting from the ground up, so to speak. He already had the creative desire, why not give it more form and fill it in with substance?

I actually personally learned a few things from reviewing You Can Do A Graphic Novel. As a writer I am always finding stumbling blocks in my creativity and am not very organized! Barbara Slate shows you techniques on how to overcome these blocks and provides tips on how to plot things out with index cards and sticky notes, something very simple that for one reason or another I had never thought of! Most of the information in You Can Do A Graphic Novel can apply to any form of writing, which is why I love it.

The illustrations in You Can Do A Graphic Novel are extremely appealing and often very funny. The "tutorial" on illustrations is very fun and engaging for young people and the fact that the entire book is broken down in steps is wonderful. I honestly believe this would be a great book for a Junior High English or Creative Writing Class and also a wonderful gift for any tween or young teen that is into comics. I have always believed that art, stories and music are the best ways we can teach our children to express themselves in a way that is not harmful. This book provides a wonderful way for young people to learn something new and to expand what is within them. It is well rounded, it feels natural to learn from and it really is something amazing to see what your child comes up with.

Barbara Slate has done it all. Her first character, Ms. Liz, appeared on millions of greeting cards, in a regular comic strip for Cosmopolitan magazine, as a spokesperson for Dupont's Lycra and as the star in a series of animated segments on NBC's Today Show. Her big break in comics came when she created Angel Love for DC Comics. From there, she created, wrote and drew Yuppies from Hell, and Sweet XVI for Marvel and put her own spin on the Disney classics Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, Archie's Betty and Veronica, and Mattel's Barbie. Barbara's art has been exhibited in many galleries and reviewed by The New York Times. She is profiled in the seminal work A Century of Women Cartoonists. Stan Lee, Chairman, POW! Entertainment and Chairman Emeritus, Marvel Entertainment, calls Barbara "titanically talented." She is currently busy being a mom, doing a graphic novel titled, I Got Married and Other Mistakes, and teaching.

Summer Fun - Flipflop Wines Review

I am always excited to try a new wine so I was happy when I was given the opportunity to try flipflop wines. I tend to be the type of person that once I find something I like I stick with it. I hate buying new wines because I am not very educated on the various types of wines therefore never know what is dry and what isn't.

I was sent 3 different wines; Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio and lastly Riesling. The Riesling was definitely my favorite of the 3 but Riesling is my favorite of all wines anyways. The Pinot Grigio was also very good and can see myself drinking that more often. I personally am not a fan of dry wines so I did not really care for the Pinot Noir but I don't care for any dry wines period. My husband also is not a dry wine kind of person but actually liked the Pinot Noir.

I was really impressed with the flipflop wines and one of my favorite things about this brand is that they actually put on the label whether it is a sweet, semi-sweet or dry wine. I am not a wine connoisseur and hate going to the wine store. I stand there in front a sea of wines and never know what to pick aside from the wines that I know I already like. Not only do they tell you what category the wine is in but they also put on there what food it pairs well with. Finally a wine company has read my mind! These wines are also a downright frugal choice at $7 a bottle! I love a great bargain.

One of the many great qualities about our new house is ample closet space. Each bedroom has a huge one and my room has two! Yes, I get his and hers closets, exciting! I cannot wait until we're all settled in and I have a ton of space for clothes. It will be great to have room for shoes too because here I always had to just throw them in a closet on the floor!

That's why I was pretty excited to check out the Rubbermaid Shoe Shelf from HomeStorageInc.com! I was so excited in fact, that I couldn't wait to try it out until we got to the new house. It's really easy to assemble and disassemble, so I set it up right away!

It's a great way for to me to store my favorite shoes and eventually I'd like to add on to it so that I can store all of my shoes neatly. It's very versatile!

Summer Fun - Little Toader Appeteethers Review & Giveaway! {CLOSED}

These are hilarious! The twins are 8.5 months and almost finished popping through their second bottom teeth. Any parent that has gone through teething knows what it's like- and most parents that are on the brink of teething kids are bracing for it. It's not fun..for them, for us- so here's a couple of unique teethers that make light of a not so fun situation.

The boys love them, and I have to admit it looks a lilttle unconventional to have your 8 month old appear to be chomping on a chicken wing or a spare rib...good times! Even my 2 year old has to get into the act and sink his teeth into them from time to time. I'm pretty happy with them as well because both teethers are Non-Toxic, BPA Free, Lead Free, PVC Free, and Phthalate Free (Please ignore that C has a wet diaper in his rib chomping shot!).

As another added bonus this is a company that has started with the best interest of their children at heart. I love finding companies that keep their own childrens' needs in mind when they are creating their products. Thank you Little Toader!

Overall, these are great- and we recommend them as perfect teething toys for the little teether in your life!
