Kipsy and the Magic Beans came to me one night when my children were 3 and 5 years old. They both dreaded bedtime and the whole process always took forever. My daughter wanted me to lie in bed with her until she fell asleep and later in the night, I always felt my son’s little hand wake me in the dark. I was constantly playing musical beds and we were all exhausted. I knew I needed to get them excited about bedtime by making it fun, not fearful. I needed to soothe them and get them interested in sleeping in their own beds all night long. And so, one night at 2am, I created Kipsy and the Magic Beans. It was our new family fairytale?and boy, the children finding those surprise incentives under their pillows in the morning worked so well! I knew I had something when they went to bed happily, actually asking me when it would be time.
We’re a co-sleeping family. I blame my husband, it really is his fault. Our son was a colicky baby well past the time the pediatrician said he would be. We would spend most of our nights nursing and cuddling and pacing. Okay, my husband did the pacing while I did the other stuff. One night, out of pure unadulterated exhaustion, I fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning, I found safely nestle between us our son. Sonshine had slept thru the night and I had had the best night’s sleep since my third month of pregnancy! What started off as what seemed like a “win-win” situation slowly turned into our nightmare as a parent. I love my son, but, gosh, between him and my husband, I have no bed to sleep on. Both toss and turn, kick and shove. Sonshine has a perfectly good bedroom in our new house and I would really like him to use it and without a big fight, struggle or even letting him CIO. I’m just not that kind of mama. (And please respect that when commenting! Thanks!)
With the help of Kipsy and the Magical Beans, I don’t have to worry about any of that! Kipsy is an adorable little gnome who lives far, far away and has trouble sleeping at night. Through his storybook, Kipsy helps soothe little ones fears about sleeping in their bed throughout the night by replacing fear with fun! Kipsy comes across a magical bean stalk and brings home a few beans. Later that night, he falls asleep with the magic beans underneath his pillow. Due to the warmth of his sleeping head, the beans grow and sprout into fun surprises!
After reading the story, you’ll give your child a magic bean to place under their pillow. If they sleep in their own bed through the night, the bean magically transforms into an incentive! But the incentive can only “sprout” if your little ones head has kept it warm all night!
Pretty ingenious, huh? The basic Kipsy kit includes the Kipsy doll, book, five magic beans and five incentives. As Sonshine is only two, this process is slow going for us. It also didn’t help we moved into a new house in a new state. Kipsy showed up just in time to help him adjust to being in the new house. We haven’t had success in using Kipsy to stay in our own bed, but I think in a few months, we’ll have better luck. The toy is designed and suggested for ages 3-7 and I think that’s a good age range. For now, Kipsy keeps us happy when we go outing in a new park or place. He’s slowly becoming a great lovely and I’m positive he’ll work wonders for helping a little older toddler sleep in their own room and then again when they have new little brother or sister in the house!
If you’re pulling out your hair and hiding bags under your eyes each morning, look no further than Kipsy and the Magic Beans! This cute little gnome will have your little one sleeping like an angel in no time!
