A while back I asked my Kindergarten students to send in clean glass jars for a project. Well, we never got around to do it – so I had a surplus of glass jars laying around! I kept thinking that I should do something with them, but what?
I went onto Pinterest and found a plethora of mason jar craft ideas. Many looked time consuming and/or messy. My main crafting time is after Simone goes to bed, so messy isn’t a great plan. I kept looking until I found an idea that looked cute and didn’t seem to take forever!
Here is what you need:
- Clean glass jars (mason, spaghetti, etc.) with lids
- Craft paint (I used the multi-surface kind I had at home)
- Plastic wrap
- A glass of water
Take a clean jar, add a squirt of paint and about a TB of water. Cover with plastic wrap and the lid. Shake. Roll. Just get the paint to cover the entire inside of the jar. You will need to keep rolling it around to keep the wet paint from settling in one side of the jar.
Every few hours swish the paint around to re-cover the inside of the jar. Open the lid and let it air dry for a few days, continuing to move the paint around. It took my jars almost 3 days to finally dry.
Once they are dry you can use them for just about anything! Add some ribbon trim on the edge, add some dried flowers, etc. If you want fresh flowers, you need to add a smaller jar inside for water.
I used mine to hold some pin-wheels I made (look for a tutorial on pinwheels next week!) for Spring!
Happy crafting!
