A wonderful CD to get tweens in the mood for Halloween this year is The Grand Scream of Things by Andy Z. It actually tells a story of Andy Z after he awakes from a dream state. It has many interesting and colorful characters like Andy Z’s pet chihuahua Reggie who actually speaks with the quirky south-of-the-border accent, who finds a wand and sets them off on an adventure to find the witch. It’s probably one of the greatest things about this CD, that it actually shares a story along with some very great music and reminds me a lot of old radio-tunes.
The Grand Scream of Things is like Fibber Magee and Molly meets Sponge Bob on a Halloween Day packed with more stream of consciousness adventure than even James Joyce could ?conjure up.?
A mix of rock, old punk, power pop to hip-hop, there’s a little bit of everything. The targeted age range is between 8-12, but my toddler loved it, especially “Punkin’ Patch” which sounds a lot like Green Day and the Ramones going out to pick pumpkins. There is even a hip-hop version of a song for making Pumpkin Bread!
There is a lot of energy in this CD and it really gets you in the spirit. Rockin’ out for Halloween is just the thing to get the kids pumped up for decorating, dressing up and getting out there to bring back our Reese’s Pieces!
