Have you ever gotten lost? I know, silly question since most of us have at least once in our lifetime. I’ve gotten lost a few times too, so don’t feel bad. I’ll tell you all about the first time that I got lost.
I had just gotten my very first car and was traveling to Indiana to visit my family and a friend of mine. I had never driven there myself before, but my dad gave me directions, so I was set. I’m usually a pretty good navigator.
Well, I was good through Chicago and most of Indiana. Then it was time to exit and I took the wrong one. You see the exit number and the highway of another exit are the same and I got a little confused I guess. So I got off, followed the rest of the directions and couldn’t find my next turn. This was before cell phones and all of that good stuff, so I had to stop at a gas station.
Unfortunately, the kid behind the counter gave me bad directions, so I had to stop at another gas station. Come to find out, I went completely out of my way and would end up driving into my Grandma’s town from the total opposite way I would have had I gotten off the right exit. It added over an hour to my 3 1/2 hour trip.
I did make it safe and sound, but a navigation system or smartphone with an app would have really helped me then. Lucky for us that now they’re quite common!
Verizon has recently launched the VZ Navigator app that will help you find your way in unfamiliar territory so you will never have to get lost again. The app has quite a few other great features too, including gas prices, school zone alert and real time traffic.
The navigator’s voice guidance is natural language so it’s easier to understand. Instead of using feet and meters like other navigation systems, it uses number of streets and traffic lights to make it easier on the driver and a safer driving experience.
