The Regular Show is a Cartoon Network animated series by J.G. Quintel, who was also the creative director for The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack! The series is about two friends, a Blue Jay named Mordecai and a raccoon named Rigby, and their strange and surreal misadventures while working as the grounds crew at a park. It also showcases their Boss, who happens to be a Gumball Machine named Benson, their co-worker who is a Yeti named Skip and their Manager Pops - a man with a lollipop for a head. There are other odd ball and strange characters who had been imagined from Quintel's own life experiences in The Regular Show, which makes it all the more interesting and amusing to watch.
My teen loves this show and I always hear him snickering with the delight of a 16 year old boy when watching. The Regular Show is really popular with his age group and he loves the off the wall sense of humor and (in some episodes) morbid comedy of Mordecai and Rigby's world. The animation reminds me of other offbeat comedies like Courage the Cowardly Dog and the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, both of which showcase estranged realities.
Season One features 11 Episodes, including:
Season Two features 28 Episodes, including:
The Regular Show is a little crazy at times, but I honestly think it is one of the best animated cartoons on Cartoon Network. It is oddball funny, witty and all over a wacky show that is smart. Many shows these days try too hard to have controversial amusement or just off kilter, but The Regular Show really pulled it off with finding that middle ground. Although I am personally not sure I would recommend it to toddlers or anything, it is a great animation that I can watch with my teen and have a fun time!
